Bab 35: Chapter 35 - Genin Team
The next day, Mikumo's graduating class gathered at the Academy to await their Jonin instructors, except for Shizune, who already started her Hospital training. With Shizune gone, there were precisely nine graduates for Mikumo's class waiting to be sorted. In total there were numerous other Genin students graduating in the other classes, but in Tooru Onizuka's class, there were ten total graduates.
Mikumo sat in her seat and looked around the half-empty room.
'The other kids didn't qualify for early graduation like us, but no doubt they will most likely all graduate one way or another in the next year or two as the war brews and get sent to the front line.'
Kurenai noticed Mikumo's pensive expression and tugged at her shirt.
"What's wrong? Is something bothering you?"
"Oh, aha it's nothing. Just wondering who our Jonin instructor is going to be, that's all."
Mikumo laughed wryly and scratched her cheek as she tried to play cool to not concern Kurenai, but Kurenai was not convinced. Kurenai pouted slightly as she slipped her fingers into Mikumo's hand and grasped it.
"You don't always have to hide things from me, you know."
Mikumo's wry smile morphed into a small frown upon hearing Kurenai's complaint.
"Sorry, I'm just a little worried about the war. I wish we had more time, just a little more and I could have made more contingency plans or finished one or two more Jutsu."
Mikumo gripped Kurenai's hand tightly, to which Kurenai smiled softly before speaking.
"No need to worry so much, we worked hard. All of us did. Isn't that why we trained so hard these last few years? We watch each other's back, and we'll all make it home safely."
Mikumo sighed and then put a smile back on her face.
"Hehe, you're right, guess I'm just a little nervous."
Kurenai giggled and then leaned in towards Mikumo.
"Where's all the confidence gone from when you brazenly asked me out on a date a few years ago? Don't tell me our slave-driving taskmaster we've had to deal with all these years has been a facade?"
At this moment, Kakashi, who sat silently next to Mikumo, decided to chime in and pat her on the shoulder reassuringly.
"We'll be fine. If there's really someone out there who can see through your illusions easily, we might as well retire now."
Mikumo looked to the left at Kakashi's aloof, yet confident gaze and sighed to herself inwardly before laughing a bit.
"Ahaha! Sorry, you guys are right! No use worrying about what hasn't happened yet. As long as we stick together, we can beat anyone! I'll show the entire shinobi world the power of our Shinigami squad!"
Mikumo then used her free hand to grab Kakashi's arm.
"This is the start of our legend!"
Kakashi sighed and shook his head.
"I thought I told you to not use that name, isn't it a little presumptuous to call ourselves gods of death?"
Mikumo grinned with a smug smile.
"Hehe, guess we'll just have to work hard to live up to the name, won't we?"
Kakashi sighed once more and shrugged, giving up. Mikumo giggled at his actions before leaning over and whispering to Kakashi.
"By the way, how's that Jutsu coming along?"
"Hmm? Which one?"
"You know, the one I told you about."
"Yeah, which one. Chidori? I'm close to learning it, but there are some complications, father is helping me work out the kinks."
"No no, I'm talking about the other one!"
"Oh, you mean-"
At this moment, a figure opened the door and walked into the class, interrupting everyone's conversations. Mikumo and Kakashi both looked over, surprised to see a familiar face.
"Sensei!"
"Father!"
"Haha, surprised?"
Sakumo walked into the room, wearing a standard Jonin instructor vest.
"Mikumo, Kurenai, Kakashi. Come along, you guys are with me."
Mikumo lit up and then shot her hands in the air.
"Yes! I knew it! Woohoo!"
Kakashi didn't cheer as Mikumo did, but he also felt very happy and reassured that his father was now the team leader. Kurenai was feeling excited as well, after all, who wouldn't want to learn from one of the deadliest named shinobi in the world?
While Mikumo was cheering, another familiar figure with blond hair walked in.
"Pardon me, sorry for being late."
Mikumo turned over to see the blond-haired youth she was making conversation with just yesterday.
"Minato! Let me guess, you're here for Asuma, Obito, and Rin, right?"
Minato chuckled and nodded.
"Nothing gets past you, does it, Mikumo-chan? That's right. Asuma, Obito, Rin, come with me."
Asuma nodded and stood up from his seat, while Obito and Rin, who were sitting in the back of the room, let out a surprised cheer.
"Ooh! It's you, Minato nii-san, you're our teacher?"
"Obito, that's rude! It's Minato-sensei now."
"A-ah right."
Minato smiled warmly at his new students and beckoned them over.
"Alright, come along now, I'll meet you guys on the roof."
Leaving behind those words, Minato disappeared in a flash.
Mikumo stared at the spot where Minato once stood with a little yearning.
'Damn, I want to learn that too. Maybe I can scam it from him using Kushi-nee.'
While Mikumo bit her finger in slight jealousy, Sakumo headed towards the window and opened it.
"Come along kids, meet me at the third training ground."
With that said, Sakumo shunshin'd away.
Mikumo stood up and jumped towards the window. Kakashi and Kurenai followed behind her. However, before she left, Mikumo turned to say her farewells to the other members of her gang.
"Asuma, Obito, Rin, we'll probably not have the chance to hang out again for a while, you better not die before we meet again, you hear me!"
"Heh, I got it, I got it."
"What, are you kidding? I won't die before I become Hokage!"
"Mhm, you stay safe as well, Mikumo-chan!"
Asuma, Obito, and Rin all reply cheerfully in turn. Mikumo grinned and then remembered something as she pulled a scroll out of her pouch and threw it at Rin.
"Catch, Rin. I've already sent a message yesterday night, so use this scroll and give it to Tsunade-sama at the hospital."
Rin caught the scroll and lit up with excitement after she heard Mikumo's words.
"I will! Thank you so much, Mikumo-chan!"
Mikumo nodded with a smile and then shunshin'd out the window towards the third training ground with Kakashi and Kurenai following suit behind her.
