Bab 36: CHAPTER 36: The Great Demon

Aella poked her head out through the doorway as she swiped left to right to see beyond the dire darkness.

Her ears were perked up to listen to any unwanted noise which would alert her of Bane's coming so she would hide or run, whichever would work.

When she thought the coast was relatively clear, she walked down the hallway, all the while tiptoeing so she wouldn't arouse a single noise.

She would be dead if Bane caught her escaping, for the third time in a row!

After they had gotten back from the garden, Aella had stayed diligently in her room as she devised means on how she would get out of Cassa Dron by nightfall.

She knew it was a risky and rather ridiculous plan but she had few choices in her hand at the moment and being the demon's luscious dinner wasn't going to be her option.

After she had made sure of the areas she could conceal herself or escape, Aella decided to make a run for it.

She even had decent footwear so she knew she wouldn't freeze outside from the cold so easily now.

With her backpack stuffed with the remaining jerky and the witch's compass, she stepped out of the room with her sword strapped to her waist.

Aella had torn a part of the bedsheet to make a belt which she tied around the hilt of her blade so it was dangling by her hip.

She braided her blonde hair and placed all the loose strands in place so she wouldn't be bothered when the harsh wind blew outside.

The determination she had to leave this place was stronger than ever and this plan had better work out, or else she would be doomed for eternity.

With her soft steps gliding down the hall, she got to the staircase and was relieved that Bane hadn't concealed it with his magic again just like he had done before.

She took one last look at the door in which Bane's room lay and wondered if he was even in there.

With a sigh, she bounded down the stairway with light footsteps but as fast as she could go.

She got to the main hall and paused for a minute, waiting to hear any incoming presence but it was as still as a graveyard.

Perfect.

The darkness almost didn't make her see her way ahead but Aella had been smart enough to count the steps she needed to take to get to the entrance.

With her calves resting on her last step, she began to count as she moved one foot after the other.

The rhythm of her breath was heightened as her frightened eyes whipped around to check if Bane was on his way to get her.

She didn't see or hear anything but her paranoia was in full force at this stage.

"Fifty," she breathed and reached out just in time to feel the mysterious carvings of the marbled double doors.

Aella sighed with relief that her estimation had been accurate. Her hands roamed over the surface before she finally touched the iron knobs.

With bated breath, she twisted and pushed one of the heavy doors as slowly as she could. The cold air gusted in and caught her off guard but she didn't relent just yet.

When it was ajar enough, she slipped through the opening but her sword got caught in between the double doors and it went tumbling down.

Aella was quick to grab it just in time before it could hit the ground and give her away. She clasped her hand over her mouth as her chest nearly constricted with overflowing nerves.

With the sword in her hand, she got out fully and without bothering to shut the door back, Aella charged forward as the wind blew against her.

Thankfully, the moonlight illuminated her path which made it easier for her to see ahead. A wide smile came onto her face as she thanked the heavens for assisting her to this point.

'Just a little more,' she begged in her head as she got to the large gates in record time.

She whirled her head behind to take a look at the Castle which looked more terrifying at night before she faced the gate head-on.

"Here goes naught," Aella mumbled under her frosty breath and laid her bare palms on the iron bars.

And she began to climb.

With her grip tight on the iron, she started moving up slowly due to the wetness that froze her hand until they were numb.

"Come on, Aella. You can do this," she gritted her teeth and pushed harder.

The wind blew fiercely, almost knocking her down a few times but she never gave in. Her resolve to run away from the prison was much stronger.

Before she could take another step, the gate swung open and she clung to the bar desperately so she wouldn't fall off.

Her eyes widened as she looked at her surroundings frantically only to see that it wasn't locked to begin with.

A series of curses left her blessed mouth when she looked down at how far she had gone.

"Thank you for disregarding my assiduity," she huffed in the air.

Aella jumped from her position and her landing was cushioned by the snow.

She had a large smile on her face at how easy the night was going only for it to wipe away when she felt a dark figure standing right in front of her.

She stilled on the ground as her hand clasped her sword to attack whoever it was. Trembling, she took a slight peek up to see that which she never imagined.

The black and ragged skin was almost not visible in the bleak night as it stood tall on its thick four limbs with the elongated tail slashing from behind.

The red-coloured eyes stared right down at her as the twisted horns swirled upwards. The heavy grunts coming from the beast blew over her face with a dangerous warning.

Aella was stuck in her pose.

"I be damned," she muttered as she remembered the familiar eyes which had chased her down the sandy hills only for her to wake up in the cell of Cassa Dron.

She was certain that it was the same creature when it opened its wide mouth and let out the similar hoarse outcry that nearly knocked her off her feet.

Bedazzled by the intruder, Aella did the first thing her terrified mind could conjure.

She picked up her sword and made a dash for it.

"Ahhh!!!" Aella picked a race and ran to her left as fast as her feet could move in the stumbling snow.

She could hear the loud thud of the monster coming behind her and that was enough motivation for her not to halt at any moment.

With the rough wind hitting her face, she continued despite her legs already giving in.

She failed to see the hill of snow waiting for her which sent her entire body rolling down as the cold particles slipped into every part of her clothes.

"Ow!" Aella winced when she landed with her ankle slamming against a rock.

She lay on the ground, seething with pain as her blonde locks were sprawled over the snow.

Her eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets when she saw a shady figure flying towards her at a supernatural speed.

Before she could shield herself from the impact, the individual dropped just a few inches before her. Aella was left speechless by what she saw.

It wasn't the creature which had been chasing her that was standing in front of her, rather it was a male. A tall and terrifyingly handsome male.

He had a tall muscled frame just like any other human but he was nothing like them. A pair of huge black wings were on his back as his eyes blazed a bright shade of gold.

She recognized him immediately which made her even more dumbfounded at the scene.

His orbs burned down at her as the wind blew his raven locks behind. He was on an all-black outfit which only added to the threat she felt.

Aella couldn't believe her eyes.

It was Bane, the same lad who nursed her to health. But, he wasn't human.

A sharp gasp escaped her lips as realization dawned on her abruptly.

Bane was the Great Demon of Cassa Dron!
