Aella didn't even feel the strain in her neck before the rope snapped into two and her weight was thrown down as though an unknown force didn't want her life to be ended this way.
"Arghh!!!!" She screamed as her body hit the ground with a loud thud.
Tears streamed out of her eyes heavily now, she felt more miserable as the attempt to commit suicide had failed drastically.
"Why is this happening to me?!" She yelled out as she craned her neck up to the ceiling.
"I can't even end my life when I want?! What type of twisted curse is this?!" She hissed in irritation at nothing in particular while her sobs filled the room.
"Aella! Aella! Are you alright?!" She heard her mother move into the room with her frightful voice.
"Heavens! What occurred here?"
She didn't even have the strength to explain to her mother how she tried to end her life and ended up on the floor.
The rope was still on her neck so she guessed her mother could deduce what she was about to do.
"Aella, what is the meaning of this?" Her mother gripped her arms, her voice shaky with slight trepidation.
Aella had a very indifferent personality that she was unnaturally calm even in the direst situations so for her mother to see to be sobbing on the floor, she must have known that things had gotten out of hand.
"I just want to die, I just want to end it all," Aella murmured as she cried out.
"What are you saying?! Have you no shame to utter such outrageous statements in front of your mother? What has gotten into you?" Baroness Meleena yelped at her daughter's words.
"We are doomed, Mother. Your daughter has ruined us forever, all the honour, prestige and wealth we ever had will be stripped off from us because of Aurelia's grave mistake!" Aella belted out as more tears spilt from her eyes.
"W-What did the witch say? You went to meet her, no? Tell me, what is the solution to this?" the Baroness gripped her shoulders tightly
The hope in her mother's eyes made her tremble.
"There is no possible remedy to this crisis, Mother. The witch told me that we would have to venture through the Dark Lands to get to Cassa Dron and bring the heart of the mythical demon rumoured to be there. How absurd can that be, don't you think, Mother?" Aella shook her head, just repeating it made her realise how maddening the idea sounded.
A flimsy human getting the heart of such a powerful creature? That was mainly in a farce or tall tale, not a bleak reality like hers.
"P-Pardon?" Her mother stuttered out in shock.
"I-Is that really what she said? There is no other way out of this?"
"No, Mother, she said the curse is much greater than her powers and she can't shut it off even if she wished to but apparently, the heart of the malicious creature can," Aella snorted, still not buying the idea of a myth being actualized.
Aella looked up at her mother to see the visible conflict on her face.
She must also be reasoning how ridiculous the plan seemed. It was simply out of question.
A frown marred her face when her mother flickered her eyes to her and stared with determination.
Aella felt a tight grip on her hands and her body went rigid.
"You must go,"
She heard glasses shattering into pieces and it was only when she blinked that she realised it was the shock of her mother's words.
"W-What?" She stuttered out, hoping to believe she might have heard wrong.
"You must go, Aella, you must save our family from this curse,"
Aella stripped her hands away from her mother's as though they were hot lava.
Her face contorted into a deep frown, and trying to find equilibrium in her surroundings was proved wrong.
She could hardly believe the request coming from the woman who birthed her.
"Do you have the slightest idea of what you are demanding of me, Mother?" Her voice was calm, contrary to the storm in her head.
"We have no other choice in our hands, my dear. If this is the only way to save our family and your father, then you must do it. You must get the heart of that demon,"
That was the last straw for Aella.
She stood up on her shaky legs and tightened the rope on her neck, she grabbed her mother's hand and pulled her weight up.
"Take it," she handed the end of the rope to her.
"What are you doing?"
"Take it and end my life, Mother,"
She knew she was the worst daughter for saying this to her mother but at this point, there was nothing more she could do.
Aella's cup had been filled to the brim!! Haha, so sad....
