Bab 56: Hillua
The hunter appeared to be wearing goggles, a robe, and a hood to cover his face. He then took it off and revealed a white messy hair and his sharp eyes as his lips curved slightly upwards to the left.
"Yo, kid. How's it going? The name's Hillua" Hillua said as he raised his right hand forward for a handshake. Folker looked at him for a while before he sighed and shook hands with the hunter.
"Thanks for saving me, Mister Hillua" Folker thanked him with a grateful gaze as he recalled the exhausted Lucario and Scizor back to their pokeballs.
"Your expression was quite something when you noticed my identity as a hunter. I bet you don't seem to have a good impression of my profession, eh?" Hillua said with a laidback tone as he smiled.
"Can't be helped. My first encounter with a hunter and he was trying to kill me. But I must say, you sure did change my perception about hunters" Folker replied with a smile on his face. He didn't feel any danger towards this hunter so he relaxed for a while.
"Hahaha! For the better, I hope. Man, it sure is hard to earn a living with this profession" Hillua replied with a laugh as he sighed when he finished his words. Folker sympathized with Hillua as he recalled the killing intent he felt from the first hunter he encountered back in Viridian Forest.
"For the better" Folker replied with a smile.
"So, what you doin' here? You better have a good reason to be in these caves" Hillua then said as he looked at Folker with a serious gaze.
"I'm currently on my way to Cerulean City but I'm not particularly in a hurry so I took this route since I heard this is a popular training spot for trainers" Folker replied.
"Sooo you went to these caves for training?" Hillua replied as his left brow moved upwards. When he saw Folker nod his head, he then smacked his head.
"Are you stupid? This is indeed a popular training spot but only for experienced trainers. These narrow caves make it difficult to escape, not to mention the sensitive Gravelers and Golems. You must have a death wish, right?" Hillua said with an irritated tone.
"And the most dangerous factor isn't even the terrain or the pokemon themselves. It's the trainers, particularly hunters, poachers, and criminal groups. Next time, don't go anywhere near caves without sleep inducing or paralysis moves" Hillua said.
He then looked at Magnemite's figure and recalled that it must have the move [Thunder Wave] and added "At least moves that actually work against these Ground types. Also, you must have more and stronger pokemon".
Folker just scratched his head in embarrassment and nodded at Hillua's words.
Hillua then turned his gaze towards the clefairy on Folker's back and asked "Hmmm? Is that your pokemon?"
Folker shook his head and let Clefairy down on the ground as it let out a thankful message in pokemon language.
"Clefairy!"
Hillua then noticed the object it was holding as his eyes suddenly lit up!
"The Moon stone!"
This was the item he was looking for in these caves. He knew that Clefairys collect Moon stones and gather them in one area for their evolution ritual but he was rather fond of these Clefairys so he stayed his hand.
However, seeing one in Clefairy's hand slightly tempted him as his eyes flashed with greed for a while before he shook his head as he sighed. He recalled that he swore to himself that despite joining the hunter association, he would never resort to actions that would violate his moral compass.
He became a hunter because it was the fastest way to earn money, aside from joining criminal organizations. He saw plenty of hunters who resort to frowned upon means and lost sight of themselves in their profession. He swore to himself that he would never become like them and never lose sight of himself despite the misconceptions of his profession.
He was a rather honest hunter and frequently cursed his fellow hunters who were caught doing illegal actions, further ruining the reputation of his profession. Although he only cursed them in his mind.
Clefairy seemed to have noticed Hillua's interest towards the stone it was holding and smiled as he raised its arm with the stone it was holding. It appeared to be giving the stone to Hillua as a form of thanks.
Hillua was taken aback by Clefairy's sudden action for a while before he smiled and accepted it.
"Thank you, little guy" Hillua said as he patted Clefairy's head.
"Clefairy!"
Folker looked at them and smiled. His impression of Hillua further improved after he saw him suppressing his greed towards the stone. He sensed the sudden surge of greed in his eyes when he looked at the stone. He sighed in relief after Hillua shook his head.
"What is that thing?" Folker asked as he looked at the stone.
"Oh this? This is the moon stone. This is one of the few evolutionary stones that can make a pokemon evolve. Clefairy, Nidorino and Nidorina, and Jigglypuff can harness the power of this stone to trigger their evolution. This is exactly the content of my mission" Hillua replied.
"I remember now. So it's the Moon stone. It must be a high grade one then" Folker said. He looked at the stone for a while before his eyes lit up in realization. Hillua noticed Folker's change in expression and looked at him.
"Hey. You're a hunter, right? Can I also issue a few missions to you specifically?" Folker asked with a grin on his face.
"Heh. So my hard work finally paid off. My advertisement worked and I gained a future client now. You can, although there would be a charge if you want me, specifically, to do your mission. Or you can just issue a mission to the hunter association and contact me to take your mission specifically. Although there's a risk that another hunter would take the mission before me" Hillua replied with a smirk.
"But I prefer that you pay the extra charge for me specifically" Hillua added.
"I must say, your advertisement efforts were indeed good" Folker praised. He knew that what Hillua did earlier wasn't an act just to get on Folker's good side but really a genuine action from his heart so Folker wasn't worried.
