---------------------------
There is a significant difference in the strength of knights and mages. A mage will never lose to a knight of equal or lesser strength except in perfect circumstances for the knight (ie: an ambush).
However, a knight of greater strength than a mage will still be relatively easily killed if he doesn't act perfectly in the fight.
When a knight reaches the 5th level, they become an aura knight capable of utilizing aura in their attacks. This can be a deciding factor in a fight as aura can cut through steel plate armor. Before this level however, steel plate is still nearly impenetrable.
The average knight level is Adept.
The average mage level is Mage.
Knights are greater in number than mages, due to the relative ease of their growth, and the fact that just about anyone can become one.
In order to be a mage, one must be born with at least a small amount of mana in their soul. Therefore, it is believed that the gods made mages stronger in order to even the odds against the high number of knights.
Spells go by circle, except for 0 circle spells which are referred to as cantrips.
