Ivan and I stood frozen in place, my heart pounding in my chest as the loud knocking on the door echoed through the room. Ivan his expression dark and forbidding, looked like he could murder the person who had dared to interrupt us. Panic surged through me as I realized the gravity of the situation.

I quickly pushed Ivan away, my mind racing with fear and uncertainty. What if it was my maid at the door? What would she think of me caught in such a compromising position with the king? I was no fool, I knew Thea was kept close to me so she can watch me and report back to him.
