Bab 5: Yup, It's not good at all!
Koutaro's mind was in a state of turmoil. He just got information that may affect his life significantly. But the main question is how come his memory has nothing about shinobi or hidden villages? Was it not common knowledge for everyone to know about ninjas in this world?
He asked kawamura "Oji -san, what are shinobi's?"( *in a childish way).
Though he felt like an idiot asking this, he still has to know why the original owner doesn't have any memories about ninjas.
"ha? you don't know?" kawamura showed a slight shocked expression. Then after contemplating for it he muttered to himself but was loud enough for koutaro to hear.
*"Well, now that i think about it people in remote villages refrain their children from knowing about shinobi and their power"*
'hmm?... refrain? why?..... What could be the reason?' Koutaru didn't understand why people do that.
"Anyway, so...shinobi are people who can use chakra as a weapon to fight. And like konoha there are other shinobi villages in many countries. But the land of rice doesn't have a shinobi village of its own." continued kawamura. "Now chakra is a type of energy that is present in everyone but only those who are shinobi can mould it as weapon." he answered, seemingly pleased with himself. His expression showed like he just gave out some divine revelation to common masses.
But koutaro was not satisfied with the answer.
Though he was not a die heart fan of the Naruto series, he had seen the anime a few times, including the recent events in Boruto.
So he has a decent knowledge about the plot and characters in the anime.
The answer kawamura gave him was just too vague. He doesn't even know what the timeline is. Naruto world was far from peaceful. Wars and skirmishes were common things as shown in the anime. At Least that was until the end of 4th shinobi world war, after which the world became more peaceful and disciplined.
'Now that I think about it, he said the land of rice fields doesn't have a shinobi village. That means Orochimaru, the snake villain haven't started his village yet. So maybe this is before the original canon.' koutaro pondered.
If Orochimaru has started making moves, then the entire land of rice fields will become an experimental ground for him.
While he was pondering kawamura said " ah! you should know about the great world war which happened 18 years ago!"
'Great world war?? Which one was it? Was it the third one?'
"Oji -san what is the great world war?" asked koutaro trying to appeal to curiosity through his voice.(again trying best to act like a kid).
"Umm, It is the war where all the great shinobi villages fought against each other. It lasted for many years. I was still young back then...I lost a very important friend at that time." kawamaru said the last part in a low voice with a hint of sadness in his voice.
" So were there any other wars like that!? " (again trying to act like a kid).
"mmm... No, It was the only war which got so big."
'Ok, so it's the first shinobi war, because it's still early it is not referred to as 1st.' deducted koutaro in his mind.
'But still it has been 18 years since it ended huh?....WAIT! doesn't that mean the second shinobi war is already close!! Ohh shit! Maybe not even 2 years are left!'
Koutaro's mind was sweating from this prospect. If that's the case then the situation is not good at all. In the anime it was shown that entire civilian villages were raised to ground for preparing battlefields for the ninjas to fight.
What if this village was attacked? He doesn't even need to think about the worst case scenario.
"uh-uh.. who is the current leader of konoha??"(he lost his fake childish composure). asked koutaro.
"hmm? oh! it's the hokage who leads the village. l guess it's the third hokage now." answered kawamura.
Yup, It's not good at all!
