Bab 5: Preparation

Cinder checked in one of the rooms the Pokemon Center offered. He was in one of Viridian City Pokemon Center's guest rooms.

The pokemon Center offered fairly spacious guest rooms. Although they weren't on par with the best that a super expensive hotel had to offer, they were still of great quality. And the beds are super comfy. Storm was resting with a comfortable expression of pure bliss as he embraced the soft and clean bed.

The clock has just ticked to noon, he decided not to disturb his partner yet, so Cinder carefully made his way out of the bed. His bare feet tocuhed the warm carpet floor as he made himself comfortable on a chair by the window side. Since his room was located on the third floor, he had a decent view of the city.

The Viridian City Gym wasn't far away, which was fairly convenient even if Cinder wouldn't be going there for a long time.

Technically, he didn't even need to go there. Since Kanto wasn't the only place to fall under the Indigo Plateau's scope, he could theoretically make it to the conference with any combination of badges from Kanto or from other places. Plenty of pokemon trainers in Inidigo divided their attention between Kanto and Johto, collecting Badges from each region.

Cinder hadn't thought that far ahead yet. His game plan was, for now, focused more on winning for their first gym badge. At the same time, he was debating how they were going to win it.

While Viridian had a gym, it was all but banned to any trainers without having earned seven badges. Giovanni, a ground-type specialist, was a ruthless battler, and he was no foe any new trainer could face with even a hope of victory.

Pewter City was his best bet. The gym leader there certainly wasn't weak, but it was the nearest gym that would use low level or low staged level pokemon for battle there. Most of the gyms are like that, depending on how strong a challenger was, they would adjust their strength accordingly. The only gyms that didn't hold back their strength were the ones in Viridian, Saffron City and Cinnabar Island. Anyways, they weren't that much important right now, since he wouldn't challenge those gyms anytime soon.

For sure, Cinder would love to also explore other parts of Johto, but he was more interested in both the Orange Archipelago and Sevii Islands. As long as there was enough time before the conference, of course he had every intention in the world to earn all his gym badges in time, regardless of how rare a rookie pokemon trainer to do so. Speaking of time, he really was tight on it, there is only a about two years before the opening ceremony where the torch of Moltres, the legendary fire bird pokemon, would be lit up.

For now, he needed to focus on his first gym challenge - Pewter City.

The Gym Leader, Brock, used rock-type pokemon. They were sturdy and scarily powerful, but had many weakness that could be exploited. There was just one problem: Storm does not particularly mesh well with rock-types as Storm was vulnerable to rock pokemon. After all, electricity weren't effective and was weak to rock-type moves and since a fair few rock-type were complimented with ground type attributes, Storm would be even less capable.

These were the thoughts that were currently flowing through his mind.

As Cinder decided to wait for Storm for about another thirty minutes, he picked up his Pokedex and began studying the Mareep-line; it's moves the line could learn, evolution and preferred food, etc. It was after all important to learn more of your pokemon, so he can prepare more or maybe even find a way for Storm to show more in battle against the Pewter Gym. Additionally, he watched a few videos of Mareep and Flaffy battle in competitive stadium.

...

Looking over to Storm, and then at the clock. Cinder saw that it was about to reach 1:00PM. It was about time he should start training his pokemon, he thought.

Before doing that, we should fill up our stomach with something first.

Cinder woke Storm up without too much excessive difficulty. The sheep took a little bit too rise up from the comfy sheets, but once he did, he was fairly cooperative. Plus, the promise of food before the training had certainly gotten the sheep moving like a hungry Munchlax.

'When you're hungry and she tells you she's wet'. That's exactly how his Storm was acting, all anxious and throughout its entire body aching with desire to dig in with ecstasy.

After finishing up in his room they were good to go. Cinder opened the door, and suddenly a yellow blur got outside as it passed by lightning quick.

Storm had rushed towards the direction of the cafeteria, not even bothering to see if his trainer was following him.

A few trainers who were also residing in the Pokemon Center, they watched in amusement as Cinder had scrambled to keep up with his starving starter pokemon.

Much like the guest rooms, the free food that was provided by the pokemon center was not considered to be first class, but it still wasn't to far from it.

While Cinder munched on a few variety of pastries, along with bacon strips and sausage to go along with it, and some fruit punch and sparkling water soda by the side, Storm had helped himself to a large bowl of pokemon food that the pokemon center had provided him with.

He was having his alone time with Storm, although he enjoyed the company he had with Diana and Dom along with their respective pokemon, he was still quite happy to have his along time with his starter and he decided to discuss their plans for the day.

"Hey, Storm." Cinder said, getting Storm's attention. The pokemon perked up, as it took a brief break from it's eating to look up towards Cinder. "We are going to start training after this, which I already informed you before. I also already told you about the gyms, didn't I? We are soon gonna challenge one after we are done here, although we are going to pass through Viridian Forest along the way there."

"Maaaar." Storm nodded in understanding.

The trainer and it's starter are getting along very well, if Cinder has to say for himself. He was quite confident to say Storm also felt the same, likewise. Nevertheless, Cinder knew that it would take more than just a few days of being together for them to really become close, like family. He didn't want to rush their relationship, regardless, there was newfound trust between them in their partnership now, and Cinder knew this was a good first step for them to truly trust and rely on each other unconditionally without the prospect of the associate establishment of them being trainer and starter.

"I am settled to use you on battle against Brock, which is the gym leader. Unfortunately, he specializes on rock-types which put you in a disadvantage because of your electric disposition." Cinder said. He wished for Storm to be with him on his first ever gym battle, he just gave his pokemon a heads up.

That made Storm stop eating his food entirely. Cinder's words brought the electric-type into deep thought. Unconsciously, he released arcs of electricity from his wool because he was slowly becoming hyped up, but also knew that the battle would be difficult because of his type disposition. Hence, he was also feeling a tiny bit frustrated.

Cinder was a bit startled, he grinned a little as he felt his starter's fighting spirit. He boosted that up by saying. "We are going to go look for TMs in the Poke Mart after we are done training. I got a few ideas in me that would help you fare much better against Brock's rock types."

"Maaaareeeeep!" Storm thrilled in joy, although not really understanding what TMs and how it would help it on his training.

...

Poke Mart were about as serviceable as the pokemon center, being stationed in every town and city, and even a few on the road trails on a countable route. Anyone with a trainer's license had a good chance of going to them quite frequently in order to start making good use of them throughout their journeys, as trainers often went to them whenever they had the chance.

The most commonly bought items at the poke mart were healing vials such as potions and antidotes, and TMs, which were great for teaching pokemon new moves, which has a note worthy function that most trainers would rely on to help them train their pokemon.

These were exactly what Cinder was planning to purchase and he already has two specific TMs that he had picked out for Storm.

He wasn't sure what pokemon that he would be catching just yet, but that wouldn't stop him from doing everything that he could to prepare the small yellow sheep for the upcoming trials ahead.

Thankfully, all the hard earned money he saved up for his journey since the day he dedicated himself to pursue this procession would be more than helpful.

He passes by the section that stocked the healing items, Cinder already had enough potions and antidotes with him and he also had not yet used even a single one of'em, he concluded the things he had in his person is enough for him to pass the Viridian Forest when the time comes. Cinder noticed that the Poke Mart had a decent amount of patrons, most of them are grown adults, with the occasional countable youngsters.

Just to be on the safe side though, he did snagged a few paralyze heals.

Storm watched as his new trainer knelt down and stuffed the healing item to a tray. Carrying the plastic tray with one hand, Cinder motioned Storm to follow him.

On the next isle at the next side of the store was the TMs section.

"Where... Is that... Aha! Found it." Cinder was going through the shelves containing the TMs in alphabetical order. He exclaimed happily when he saw both the TMs he had on mind has a few stock left.

"Storm, do you know what a TM is?" Cinder asked as he got one of the two different TM moves that he wanted.

"Mareep." Storm shook his head honestly.

"A TM is a special handy device that allows a trainer to automatically teach a pokemon certain moves." Cinder explained patiently. "This is useful for a lot of different pokemon. If I gave you the TM for a specific move, you will have a basic understanding on how to use it. After that, we simply need to train in order for you to master it."

"Reep." Mareep nodded in understanding.

"I can afford two TMs with the money we got... If we purchase this, we have to rely on you and our future partners joining the team to earn us money to support us further." Cinder explained. Battles between trainers would do a wager everytime they commence on to battle. From highest to lowest: 1500 Pokedollars to 100 Pokedollars. Beforehand, trainers also had to be on agreement for mutual benefits. "Thankfully, the TMs I planned for you to train in is in stock. They're called Double Team and Iron Tail, one is to aid you on regards to mobility, to evade physical contact with close-combat attack based moves. Whilst Iron Tail is a really strong move that will provide you with a lot more close up firepower against our future challenge against Brock's gym, which Iron Tail would come in handy for our preparation. Of course, overall this is a good addition to your movepool that consist mostly of status effect, with this the bug-types and any pokemon we will battle on Viridian Forest would be much smoother, we may even possibly catch a great addition to our team... or two."

He paused and allow all of that information to sink in, and then continued.

"Appropriately, it being a water-type. Oh wait... We already had another partner." Cinder glanced sideways to stare at the black backpack strapped on his back, he chuckled. "Almost forgot about this guy, mom said it would hatch soon. So keeping that in mind, this guy is already considered a part of our team."

Storm also stared at the black backpack, his gaze abnormally held companionable in them. In the span of a day, the Mareep was cordial towards the mysterious pokemon egg all the time, whenever it would go into slumber, it would always keep the backpack close to it. Cinder was puzzled at his action, but it took only a few moments of this for him to understand that Storm was taking care of it like how a big brother would act.

Cinder was happy that his starter was protective and caring, it was a good trait, at least Storm wasn't like those hardy natured Pokemons that would act audacious, or sassy ones that would sometimes be so impudently narrow-minded.

Anyways, let's get back to business. Cinder thought as he tossed his thoughts behind. He paused for a second. "For now, we should focus on building up your moveset. In addition to both of these TMs we would purchase, there are some moves that you should be able to grasp at this point. Since you know Thunder Shock, we will also add that in your training regime, we'll train it until perfection and then work on Thunderbolt, which is an obvious option, as it's much more powerful. Thunder shock is pretty much the basis for that move, so it shouldn't be too hard. It's the most commonly used electric-type move, both in major battles and elsewhere too, nonetheless, it is incredibly useful in battles. I also picked up from the Pokedex that you are able to learn, Cotton Spore, which is a grass-type move, it says your line are able to learn it easily. I would also like to work on Electro Ball and your egg moves you had inherited, but those will probably require more work."

"...Mareep." said Storm. It really was a lot to take in.

Cinder sighed. "Trust me, bud. I know it is overwhelming. But, I'm definitely not saying that you need to master all of this overnight. Nevertheless, it's important that we put as much focus on them as possible. We can prioritize certain moves, of course, but it will probably be the best to put at least a little bit of focus on each of them. Once we have all of this moves down, we can then move on to others, until you're a killing machine, a force to be reckoned with and not just some cute little pokemon, that would be seen as eye candy for others." He smirked, as he saw Storm perking up really quick. Clearly this was a soft spot of Storm, which was he did not want others to see him as a cute fluffy pokemon. Cinder murmured much to himself than for their discussion. "The next time we meet Red and Blue, those two won't know shit on what hit them."

Storm was now all riled up and ready to train, he was running around all fours on a circle from where he stood, attracting some nearby customers.

"That's the energy!" Cinder happily said. "Right now, we should prioritize Double Team and Iron Tail. Cotton Spore is easy for you, so we will also add that on. Focus on improving Thunder Shock to perfection too, then we will focus on the other ones later, but we should maybe get the basics down."

Storm nodded enthusiastically. It was a plan.

Cinder glanced at the clock very quickly. "Good, we're making great time. It's about to reach 02:00PM. Let's get going and train, Storm."
