Bab 28: Chapter 28: The Door to Everywhere

Vix wrenched her fingers free of the orb, recoiling from it as she would from an enormous serpent. She tripped over her own feet and fell hard, flat on her back. Vix lay there, stunned, her body numb with shock.

If allowed, she would have stayed there for hours. But then Caine came rushing to her side. His face swam into view, blocking the starry ceiling above, white and scared.

“Vix? Vix? Ancestors, Vix, say something, please!”

Vix blinked and managed to unstick her tongue from the roof of her mouth. “I-I’m okay.”

With Caine’s hand upon her back, she sat up. Dreading what she would find, she looked back to the dais. The orb sat there innocently, spinning slightly once more.

“What... What...” Vix could barely get the words out. She had no clue what had just happened. Her mind was spinning as quickly as the room had been a minute ago.
