Bab 22: Chapter 22 The Booming Population Business

"Is that Skull Labor really as strong in combat as you say, or are you bluffing?"

"It's no bluff, that's a Level 3 Skull Labor, with the same combat power as a Level 3 farmer. But there's no real advantage, it's just a skeleton, not pretty at all. Why should it be worth two?"

"Exactly, once you upgrade the Lord's Cottage to Level 3, you can trade for Level 3 farmers with the same resources."

Many people began to clamor, shouting for Fang Jie to lower the price.

Fang Jie just smiled, this was a seller's market.

"Enough said, the Undead have great benefits. First, they don't need food; second, they have no loyalty, so you don't have to worry about rebellion. Even if they fight to the death, they will keep fighting. What you need now are not nice-looking warriors but those who are not afraid to die and won't run away. And these are just right."

"That's right, those that don't need to eat are the best. Two farmers are just two portions of food, but they need to eat daily. A Skull Labor is also two portions, but you benefit permanently with one investment."

"But the price is still too high. I don't have that much food."

"Are there any more Skull Labors? I want to buy, I want to buy."

Fang Jie saw that the thousand he had just listed had already sold out. Outside the Material Warehouse, a large number of farmers had appeared; this business was too good.

With a wave of his hand, a large number of Skull Soldiers rushed forward, escorting the farmers towards the Skeleton Conversion Field.

The farmers resisted, but they were no match and were simply knocked out cold.

Why not kill them? That's because Fang Jie found that killing a farmer only yielded one spirit point, but if thrown in alive, that made two points.

Originally, the death of two farmers would produce the resources for one Skull Soldier, but now it could yield an additional two spirit points.

If that was the case, why use the dead at all? These farmers were no different from puppets to Fang Jie; he didn't see them as living beings. Perhaps this was the special aspect of summoned troops.

By comparison, his Skull Soldiers, aside from not being able to speak, were almost indistinguishable in performance.

Then, Fang Jie listed another thousand Skull Labors. Looking around, there were no more Skull Labors, so he quickly set about creating them from these farmers.

One Skull Labor for two farmers were the equivalent of one Skull Soldier and two spirit points.

After Fission, that would be four Skull Soldiers and two spirit points. This was a trade guaranteed to make a profit.

"Lord Fang Jie, you've upgraded to a village, haven't you? Do you have any Regular Soldiers? Their Combat Power must be stronger than these, right?" Suddenly, someone raised a question to Fang Jie.

A thought flashed through Fang Jie's mind; right, why hadn't he thought of that?

Converting farmers into Skull Labors and then into Skull Soldiers was somewhat of a hassle. It would be more cost-effective to use Skull Soldiers directly. Besides, he could significantly increase the price.

With that thought, Fang Jie immediately replied, "I have Skull Soldiers; their combat power is incredibly strong, and they are also Level 3."

He then sent across a video showing a Level 3 Skull Soldier, whose combat power was much stronger than five or six Level 3 Skull Labors put together. Even taking on ten at a time, they would almost always be the victor.

Watching this display, many were excited. "Can we trade for Skull Soldiers then?"

This was something that didn't need to eat, and although they couldn't work, their combat power was strong.

The protective barrier was about to disappear, and for everyone, the most important thing was surviving, not anything else. Those with ambition were thinking about how to continue their development, which all required troops.

"One against ten, so raising the price tenfold shouldn't be a problem, right? Wait, no, that won't do. Once they develop their own villages, they will see the difference, which won't be good for my reputation."

Fang Jie almost sent this, but then he paused.

Reputation may seem valueless in terms of tangible benefits to many, but that's not really the case. To continue to grow and expand, a good reputation was necessary.

Fang Jie didn't believe he was invincible or that nobody could deal with him.

If his reputation was poor, he would encounter all sorts of troubles and dangers in the future. With this in mind, Fang Jie simply sent out the information, "The materials for a Skull Soldier are twice that of a Skull Labor, but the conversion takes time."

"Five times the price. I'll offer ten farmers; Level 1 farmers are acceptable too, right?"

No sooner had Fang Jie spoken than someone answered.

"Ten times, ten times the price." It didn't take long for the price to start rising. If it were someone else, they'd have been ecstatic as the price had skyrocketed to twenty times.

Fang Jie knew they were just caught up in the heat of the moment. If he really went with that price, not only would he surely be despised, but the number of people able to make the trade would also be few, which wouldn't be good.

"I'm offering troops in exchange, but I have to make some profit, so the price has to be a bit higher."

"That's right, anyone who demands selfless contributions from others is acting like a thug."

Good, someone had already set the tone for the transaction, so Fang Jie didn't need to add much.

He sent out a message again, "I won't be too greedy. Let's raise the price slightly; one Skull Soldier for eight farmers. After all, my production here is limited; I can't trade too much."

"I agree to this price. Give me a thousand first." Someone immediately placed an order.

Was this person so bold? Fang Jie was taken aback, but then he realized. This was probably not just one person, but rather a team, and likely not a small one.

Eight thousand farmers weren't actually eight thousand; they could be summoned temporarily with food.

Farmers needed to eat, so many people had stored up large quantities of food and wouldn't exchange it for farmers. But skeletons were different; they needed no food and were like perpetual motion machines.

A lifetime of benefits from a single investment, so for anyone, even at eight times the price, it was an excellent deal. After all, maintaining a farmer would mean eating eight portions of food in eight days.

Not to mention that in terms of combat power, eight farmers were no match for one Skull Soldier.

Some had planned to wait until the last day, to exchange all their food for farmers to survive the most dangerous moments. Now that they could exchange for Skull Soldiers, it was even better.

Without food, farmers could only be sent to their deaths, while Skull Soldiers could be well preserved.

"Crap, it seems I've set the price too low." Having already quoted a price, Fang Jie didn't want to change it; that wouldn't be good. After thinking it over, Fang Jie decided to list all five thousand Skull Soldiers from his Territory.
