"Hi! I'm Angelina, but you can call me Lina! I'm also a new transfer here, so I hope we can get along!" said the girl in front of Alaukik, her hand extended towards him for a handshake.
However, there was no reaction from Alaukik, in fact, with the way he was breathing, it looked like he was fast asleep. And so, Lina simply decided to move onto the next person - Divya.
And so, walking towards Divya, she did the same thing as she did with Alaukik: she extended her hand, and said
"Hello! I'm Angelina, but you can call me Lina~ I'm also a new transfer student here, so I hope we can become friends!"
Seeing this, Divya, who was still not used to this new country and didn't know much about being around people in general, didn't know how to react. And so, she simply nodded her head and said
"M-Me too."
Hearing this, Lina let out a bright smile, and quickly put away her extended hand
"Then can I sit beside you?" she asked, pointing to the seat on her left.
"B-but someone already sitting?" questioned Divya, looking at the boy who was already seated on the chair and talking to his friends.
"It's fine, I'll talk to him. So, what do you say?"
"O-okay."
Hearing this, Lina smiled once again and walked towards the boy who was sitting beside Divya.
'I wonder how she can be so confident,' thought Divya to herself, watching Lina walk towards the boy.
'Can I become as confident as her one day? And as strong as him?'
Turning her head towards Alaukik, Divya noticed that he was still pretending to be asleep, although she didn't understand why. To her, Lina seemed like a nice girl who wanted to be friends, so she didn't understand why he ignored her.
Shaking her head, Divya decided to forget about it and simply focus on herself.
…
Dragging her body out of the classroom, Divya had only one thought going through her mind,
'How can they all talk so much?'
It turns out that since it was the first day of school, most of the teachers didn't start teaching the moment they stepped into class. Instead, all of them decided to have an introduction session, where every person was to introduce themselves and talk a bit about how their summer went, what they want to do this year etc.
As you might imagine, this was hell for Divya, who had just recently learned the language and frankly did not have much of a life, thus leaving her with nothing to talk about. While the others in her class talked about how they went to various places for the summer, Divya couldn't really say that she was rescued from her kidnappers, and neither could she talk about how they were attacked while shopping for clothes.
While the others talked about how they were excited to learn new magic spells, Divya couldn't say anything, as she knew that she couldn't learn any other spells apart from the one she was born with - a courtesy of being a BS magician.
And so, with anxiety and nervousness taking over her, she remained quiet in all of her classes, trying to become invisible. Which unfortunately never seemed to work, however
'At least I made a new friend!' thought Divya, picturing Lina in her mind.
Throughout the day, Lina had been quite helpful towards her, and tried to encourage her to speak out. While it never really worked, Divya felt grateful towards Lina for her efforts.
Suddenly, she felt someone patting her back, and then she heard a voice behind her speak,
"Don't worry, there won't be so much interaction from tomorrow. Since today was the first day, nobody wanted to teach anything, that's the only reason they talked so much. From tomorrow we'll be having proper classes, and so there won't be so much talking."
Turning her head around, Divya saw Alaukik stepping up to her side, no expression on his face. Looking at him, Divya was once again reminded of the stark difference between him and her.
Both of them were in the same situation and had nothing to talk about, but Alaukik was able to speak nonetheless. When the teacher had asked him to introduce himself, he introduced himself, when they had asked him what he wanted to do, he had said "I want to live a peaceful but fun life", and when the teachers asked him about his likes and dislikes, he had simply said "I don't know". And the surprising part was that the teacher accepted his answer! They didn't ask him any qu-
"Don't think too much," said Alaukik again, looking at her.
Shaking her head, Divya gave him a quizzical look and asked him,
"What do you mean?"
Pointing at her forehead, Alaukik said,
"I know you're probably overthinking all of this inside this head of yours. And I'm telling you not to. It's just a school, and these are just children. Don't think too much about it. You are different from them, and you have just arrived here in a new country. It will take some time for you to get used to the place, so take a deep breath and just rela-"
"Divya! How was your first day at school?" shouted a voice suddenly from behind the duo.
Instantly, a frown crept on Alaukik's face and he whispered,
"Or not."
However, even though Alaukik did not have a good impression of Lina from the anime, he knew that he couldn't show it here, especially not when he didn't know why she transferred here. He had a feeling it might have something to do with him, but he didn't think that the USNA government would send their best agent simply to deal with him, since they should not have any of his information apart from the fact that he was Asha's nephew.
Sighing, Alaukik simply kept moving forward, knowing that Lina would catch up with them anyways. Watching him continue moving, Divya also kept walking, although she did turn back to look at Lina who was quickly catching up to them.
Coming to her left, Lina gave Divya a small smile and asked again,
"So, how was your first day? Was it fun? Oh, and I forgot to introduce myself!"
Standing in front of Alaukik, Lina extended her hand once again, and said,
"Hello! My name is Lina! I hope we can be good friends!"
Sighing, Alaukik extended his hand to shake hers,
"I also hope we can be friends."
