Bab 65: A cockroach

Sitting in a chair placed around a round table, Jamshed is going through some papers lying in the table, with no signs of panic in his countenance.

Suddenly, a shrill sound echoes through the room, and Jamshed notices a tear in the space of this room.

Sighing, he says,

"Although I knew this was coming, I didn't expect you to come so fast. Hmm, it was Uday wasn't it? That rat has been poking around for a while now."

"Does it matter?," asked Alaukik, stepping out of the tear and taking a seat opposite to Jamshed, "You're going to die anyways."

Leaning backward on the chair and supporting his chin, Alaukik asks

"Tell me, when you decided to take away the eyes - and source - of a child, what were you thinking? What was it that you hoped to accomplish by doing that?"

"I wanted to create artificial mages with abilities similar to yours. Had that plan worked, the Federation would no longer have to bend to anybody else, and we would've been the defacto leaders of the new world. Of course, all of that is now a dream."

"Did the idea that it might be better to just convince me to join the Federation never occur to you?"

Letting out a laugh, Jamshed replied,

"First of all, you were in a coma with no improvements for years. Secondly, how would I have made sure you would always stay loyal to the Federation? If one person's sacrifice can improve the Federation for generations to come, then I'm willing to sacrifice them."

"Even if you are that sacrifice?"

"Even if I am that sacrifice," replied Jamshed with confidence.

"If killing me can ease the hatred in your heart against the people of the Federation, then I will never stop you. After all, you are now far more important than anybody in this land."

Scoffing at this statement, Alaukik said

"Hatred against the people of the Federation? Please, I am not an animal who can't think. Why would I hate the people, when they were not the people responsible for my pain? Of course, that doesn't mean I like them either. If anything, I'd say I don't really care for them at all. Whether they live or die is none of my concern."

Sighing, Alaukik continued,

"Why am I even explaining myself to you? Characters always die because they talk too much, so let's just get down to the killing."

"Wait, if you say you don't hold any hatred for the people, then why did you destroy that shopping mall today?"

"Hm? Me? Weren't you the one who gave the twins my location to kill me? Are you kidding me? It wasn't you?"

"...What are you talking about? Twins? Your location? Why would I give anybody your location? You are the weapon of the Federation, there's no way in hell I would want to kill you. All I want is to control you for our benefit. No wait, are you telling me it wasn't you who destroyed the mall? But there were eyewitnesses who saw you at the scene-"

"Shut up. You're telling me it wasn't you? That would mean someone else told those two my location?"

Falling into thought, Alaukik started to analyse the information he was just given,

'I doubt they can track all the changes in space around the world, so they had no way to know where I was just through my teleportations - then it must've been someone else who knew where I was. But who? Asha? No, there's no way. Divya? She didn't even know who those two were. - Ugh, I'll think of this later.'

Meanwhile, Jamshed was also trying to make sense of the information Alaukik provided him with.

"Are you trying to say that there are other people with powers similar to yours? But there is no way! We weren't able to succeed in any of our experiments! All of our test subjects are either dead or disabled beyond help! No one was able to bear even a fraction of your powers!"

"Once again, just shut up. Sigh, you know what, forget it. I think I know who it might be. Your time is up, Jamshed. I would give you a chance to tell me your dying wish, but now, I really don't think you deserve even that," interrupted Alaukik. Standing up from his seat, Alaukik simply waved towards Jamshed, and tore his body in two, separating his head from the rest of his body.

Sighing, he said,

"That was so anticlimactic…" before teleporting away.

"I wonder if it's because I have things far more important to worry about than a poor soul like him?"

Appearing once again in Uday's room, Alaukik reopened his domain and searched for Uday. However, to his surprise, he couldn't find Uday anywhere, and instead found a tear in space that was halfway through healing. Walking towards it, he realised that it was not a tear from his teleportation.

'This - someone else was here? The twins? But… There is no way -" realising something, Alaukik's eyebrows stretched to their limit, shock filling his expression.

'Uday betrayed me? That coward? Where did he get the courage from? No, they must've offered him something amazing. There is no way he would betray me otherwise, he's too much of a coward. I should've killed that cockroach the moment he was no longer useful.'

Sighing, Alaukik simply teleported once again, promising to himself that he would kill the cockroach the next time they crossed paths.
