Bab 10: No one is born to be a side character. An unexpected change
Laying on the ground, with the lightning currents assaulting him, Fang Yuan was completely unable to move and could barely think.

Even though it was only a Rank 1 Gu and Chi Yan had the weak Jade Green colored primeval essence of Rank 1 initial stage cultivator, he still had one of the Ten Extreme Physiques! But then the wolf made his move and pounced on them. Both Chi Yan and Fang Yuan were crouched on the ground, making them very attractive targets.
Chi Yan cursed in his heart and could only try to protect his head and throat by stiffening his shoulders and crouching downwards. He ignored the wolf and with a groan, squeezing his hand at the handle, he sent the dagger at Fang Yuan's throat.
Fang Yuan's face was facing downwards, so he could only do that. If his eyes were not exposed, the Chi Yan planned to directly pierce Fang Yuan's brain instead.
"Ahhrrrr!" Chi Yan used momentum and full strength to decisively slash across Fang Yuan's throat.
Skin, muscle and a major vine seemed to be cut deeply by Chi Yan's sharp blade as blood started spurting from Fang Yuan's neck.
At the same time the wolf had bitten Chi Yan's shoulder, causing him to loudly groan in pain.

The wolf continued growling, and when Chi Yan retreated far enough, it approached Fang Yuan and started feasting on his flesh, starting with his neck which was oozing fresh blood.
Seeing that scene Chi Yan let out a breath of relief. At that moment the pain assaulted him once again as if being reminded of it.
After looking at his wounds, Chi Yan felt panicked as he didn't have anything to bandage himself with. It isn't that Chi Yan didn't prepare himself properly, it's just that he didn't dare to over prepare himself to not make his plans too obvious to the Heavens.
Chi Yan thought of using his shirt to bandage his wound and hesitated for a while if he wouldn't look too suspicious. Eventually though he figured that no matter what he does, he would attract attention on the way back either way. He quickly pulled off his shirt, exposing his torso, and sensibly slashed the shirt apart using his dagger a few times. Using a lengthened cloth he then wrapped it around his arm and shoulder while groaning in pain, and then tied it.
Having finished, he felt quite dizzy. It appeared that he still lost quite a lot of blood during this time. At the same time, he seemed to still be bleeding from his wounds.
'I need a better, tighter bandage… I need to return,' Chi Yan thought quickly.
The wolf glanced at Chi Yan for a moment before it returned to greedily eating Fang Yuan's meat. It now moved to Fang Yuan's stomach and started consuming his warm internal organs.

The two guards went instantly on alert.
"You can go and check. Just go left and you'll find Fang Yuan's body."
Following that, one of the guards left to check out the place that Chi Yan indicated, while the other clapped his wooden clappers in a rhythm, sending out some sort of signal.
Soon two other Gu Masters came, seemingly in response to the signal, and one of them was a healer. Chi Yan then received immediate treatment of his arm, while the guard that left to check up on Fang Yuan brought back Fang Yuan's body and confirmed that he was killed by a Lightning Wolf.
After Chi Yan's identity was revealed, one of the guards escorted him back to the Chi family's estate, completely free of suspicion.
When Chi Yan's grandfather found out about the matter, he flew into a rage. Rather than scolding Chi Yan though, he was mostly scolding the guards and Gu Masters who are supposed to clear up the surroundings of the village, scolding them for not doing their job properly.
Gu Yue Chi Lian seemed worried and relieved that nothing happened to Chi Yan, and then properly healed his wounds once again with a Rank 3 Gu.
Using a Blood Essence Gu from the family treasury, Chi Yan also replenished a little bit of his own blood.
Eventually Chi Yan retired to his room. There was still a feeling of numbness on his shoulder and arm, but he had no wounds or scars.
Following that, in order to celebrate Fang Yuan's death, Chi Yan invited his personal servant girl who clearly had a crush on him into his room.

After waking up in the early morning of the next day, Chi Yan noticed the sound of heavy rain hitting against the rooftop. 'It's raining again?'
Chi Yan looked around his room and noticed that Luo An, who he previously told to take a day off today, had already gotten up and left. The room was also quite a bit tidied up compared to the messy state that Chi Yan left it in yesterday night.
Chi Yan smiled fondly while thinking about Luo An and the last night. 'I wonder if she's able to walk properly today.'

He then got up from his bed and stretched himself. He noticed that the feeling of numbness that he had on his shoulder and arm had disappeared completely. He walked to the window and noticed that it was raining very heavily and there were many pools formed outside. He closed the window without much thought. It must have started to rain very heavily when he fell asleep.
Recalling, today he should report his successful Gu worm refinement to the Academy Elder. With this in mind, Chi Yan slowly closed his eyes and looked into his Aperture.
However, what he found after inspecting himself shocked him.
There was now a strange new Gu worm inside his Aperture, while his Aptitude was no longer at 100%, but it seemed to have slightly dropped!
