After bidding farewell to Lady Guo Yurong and Madam Liu, Yang Ning climbed into her carriage with the assistance of Xiaowei, who joined her inside. In the past, Xiaowei used to walk beside the carriage, but Yang Ning changed the rules, allowing her to ride along. Typically, servants were expected to either walk alongside the carriage or occasionally sit with the carriage coachmen in case of long-distance travel but not inside the same carriage as the royal family members.

Despite these norms, Yang Ning, who considered Xiaowei more as a close friend than a servant, chose to bend the rules and established the ritual of sharing the carriage with her. Especially when Zheng Liang wasn't accompanying her and there was ample space for Xiaowei to sit and keep her company.
