"What did you do?" I almost stood up. "You killed hundreds of innocent lives just to resurrect Evelyn! William, are you crazy?"

"That's right, I'm crazy!" William clenched his fists and slammed them on the table and the candlestand shook. He looked at me with those golden eyes as if I was the murderer.

"Katherlan had always wanted to have a child of her own, but she and King Nick had not had any children for many years. Thus, the God of Darkness asked me to disguise myself as a masked messenger to trick her. I told her that as long as she sacrificed a hundred lives, she could have a child!" William stroked the wine glass with his fingers and said, "I can't believe Katherlan believed my words. She sent troops to capture the people who lived around the oak tree, including women and children. She contributed enough flesh and blood to feed Evelyn, and true to his words, the God of Darkness had allowed her to have her child."
