Isaak hated how he reacted a few seconds later than how he could have reacted quicker if only he had enough sleep. But he couldn't sleep a wink. It already had been a week since Zoe was swallowed by the book, and his wife hadn't returned yet. "What is it?"

Sawyer, his right-hand man, looked worried about him. But after working for him for almost ten years now, the knight knew better than ask him if he was alright. "Dal, Duchess Viotto's aide, would like to speak with you in private."

That was a surprise.

He had seen Dal with Zoe several times. During those short moments, he could tell that the young lady wasn't an ordinary servant.
