Regina doesn't seem to notice though because she smiles as she continues, "I heard you're now the head of the family. I knew you had it in you. You've always been a smart boy." How would she know? She wasn't here for many years and judging by what Mariano has told me, there's not a chance she knows her son that well.
"Is there a point to all this? How is that relevant to your visit? Why are you really here? I'm busy. I have to leave in five minutes."
She blinks, looking taken aback, and then she repeats, "Like I said, I am implementing my rights as the madam of the house."
Another shiver runs down my spine, goosebumps rising on my arms at the thought of living with this woman. There's no way Mariano would agree to this ridiculous arrangement.
"I heard you the first time. I'm just choosing to ignore that," he says. Thank god.
"I'm moving back here, Mariano," she says in a serious tone while clutching the handles of her bag tight.
