Coral sighed as she absent-mindedly compacted the coffee in the portafilter before affixing it onto the group head. After pressing a button, hot espresso gushed out into a metal pitcher. To her, the swishes and rattling of the machine were a form of meditation music to keep her mind in a state of trance. No thoughts about home. No thoughts about home home. Just living and working in the present.

Under the pressurized steam, the milk in another metal pitcher quickly turned thick and foamy. With her expertise, Coral whipped up a simple latte to go for the fox lady who was engrossed in a call.
