Bab 18: Chaos
Chapter eighteen
The undead press their weight on the door and the elevator's doorstops midway.
Fuck! Jake curses mentally, "Push them off!" Shooting them wouldn't work since there are more behind them.
The guys put their strength into it, three tries to push them out including Jake while the three others try to close the door.
After what seemed like an eternity, the door finally closes. Jake heave a deep sigh and bring out one of his rifles.
"You guys have to stay alert, more could be waiting for us"
" Yes sir," the guy's chorus and stays alert throughout the movement of the elevator.
The elevator stops and starts to open. The guy steady their gun, ready to shoot anything on the spot.
They walk out of the elevator and there's no one in the corridor. They walk for a while and get to lab 203. Jake brings out his phone and dials Gauis' line. He picks up immediately.
"Open the door for us please," he says and the door opens immediately. The guy walks in and closes the door.
"Are you unscratched?" Gauis asks with concern, "A small bite can spread the virus. You must never let them touch you with their saliva."
Jake nods," We came unscathed. Where are the rest?"
" We are making something but we need the host body to prepare the antidote"
Jake raises a brow," You mean that you need the undead to know how the antivirus would be?"
" Exactly, "Gauis says and walks away to the system. Jake follows quietly, "Here, we analyze the virus from the animal we used years back. But it might not be the same as humans. So, we will need at least one undead to run the tests"
Jake sigh," We can get that. Then perhaps we can chain him do m somewhere here. I will leave some of my guys to you. So, you wouldn't have to worry about a disturbance. Also, I will get you some foodstuff"
" That's dangerous," Mathias supplies, coming forward," We left a great night deal of undead outside the elevator. There's no way we will get past them," Mathias offers, with fear written all over.
" Then, we will take the stairs"
" That's dangerous too, "Gauis blurted in.
Jake looks at Gauis," We have no choice if we want to survive it. You must survive for us to have the antivirus."
Gauis sighs," What about Jessica. How is she?"
" I will go and look for her after I've settled you. You must provide the antivirus no matter what, I will_" a guy screamed suddenly. Jake and Gauis look back at two guys fighting. However, it seems like one is human while the other one has turned into one of the undead.
"OMG! Philip has turned! He must have gotten bitten in the elevator," Mathias announced.
The others cock their guns, ready to fire but Jake holds his hand in the air, "No one should shoot," he says and moves closer with steel.
He hit the steel on his head and the undead hand on the other guy falters. Jake uses the opportunity to kick him in the stomach. He stays on the floor unmoving. Jake looks back at Gaius, "Should I leave him like this for you?"
Gauis rushes to the table close by and takes a syringe out. He stretches it out to Jake," it stops the heartbeat for five minutes"
Jake collects it and injects the undead. The undead stays still. Jake smiles and looks at Gaius, "You are good at what you do".
Jake with the others chain the undead down to the metal bed.
"I will be back," Jake says and gestures to the others to follow him.
They open the door slowly and look out in the passageway. They walk out.
Mathias turns to Jake, "We will need to go to the next store and that's a street away. What about Jessica? "
Jake reason it for a while," Do you have better ideas?"
They hear a gunshot, then another.
Jake looks at Mathias," What's that?"
"Could Madam Jenny and the others be coming here?" Mathias offers
Jake shivers," Then we need to go help them. We are taking the stairs"
They race to the stairs. And run down the stairs. Thank God they are just on level four.
They get down in no time.
"Shoot at them!" Jake screams and starts to shoot at the undead that is clustered together.
Everyone complied immediately. Everyone spread themselves and started to shoot at the undead. But it seems the person on the other side is skilled too as the undead would drop dead from the other side as well.
Mathias runs to Jake again, "Sir. It's the young boss".
What the fuck! Jessica is always referred to as the young boss.
Jake stared ahead and watch his mean shoot the undead down until he could finally see Jessica.
It's Jessica. A smile evades his face.
Jessica kicks an undead and snaps his neck. She gets up and looks at Jake. Then, a smile evades her face. She walks to them, pulling luggage with her.
Mathias collects the bag from her, "What are you doing here?"
Jessica squeezes her face, "I'm here to see Gaius. I didn't expect to meet you here."
Jake looks at the luggage," What's this?"
" Food for Gauis and the rest"
" Really?"Jake smiles harder.
" Sir, look ahead!" One of the men suddenly called out. They all follow the direction of a group of the undead racing towards them as if their lives depend on it.
"Guys let's go back in," Jake says quickly.
Mathias looks at him," Are we taking the stairs or the elevator?"
" The elevator!" he screams and races to the elevator with the rest of the men. Mathias picks the bag and runs after.
Jessica stays for a while, watching them.
Almost halfway, Jake stops running and turns back to look at Jessica, "What the fuck are you doing? Come here now!" He scream at her as if she was a grounded kid that wanted to go to the park and play with the kids.
Jessica didn't move, she continued to stare at the undead running towards her.
