The vodka taken from the fridge stood on the table followed by the snacks.

Adam sat down heavily on one of the chairs, Hubert on the other.

After the first glass they drank without a word. Then after the second. It wasn't until the third glass that the lawyer let out a sigh:

“Does anyone up there hate me?”

Raymund was aware of what "upstairs" he meant.

“Why do you think that?”

“How can I think otherwise?” Adam fell silent. He stuck his gaze into the table top. “Or is this justice for letting Kwiecień go?”

Hubert felt a sting in his heart. Adam was clearly painfully moved.

“After all, you know you didn't let him go. There was no evil intent in your actions and the outcome was not the result of your actions alone.”
