Bab 1: Prologue

He rubbed his back with a furious fervor and prayed that he wasn't injured too badly. He didn't see the truck when he went to reach for his glasses in the crosswalk, but that wasn't his fault. In the middle of the night you're supposed to have your beams on, but the truck just barreled through the light. When you're nearsighted like Ian, it's common to have trouble making out big white machines of death.

Ian glanced around looking for where the truck had swerved off to after hitting him, but his surroundings had changed. He had been moved to a courtroom and sat in a chair on the left side of the room labeled plaintiff. In front of him in the judges chair holding a gavel, a giant man looked at him expectantly. The high table where the judge sat had papers scattered all around, with a sculpture of lady justice on the corner.

"Mr.Abrams, I'm waiting for your opening statement," the judge said.

Ian looked around confused, still determined to understand how he ended up in a courtroom. To his right he saw another man sitting with a similar confused look at a table labeled defendant. The chubby man had a large beard and wore a nice black suit. Ian looked down and realized he wore a similar one.

"Mr. Abrams I have many cases to settle, please read your opening statement on case 936903055: the early death of Ian Abrams."

"What do you mean death! What the hell am I doing here? Last I remember I dropped my glasses in the crosswalk and when I went to pick them up a truck passed through a red light. Am I really dead," Ian asked. He put his hand to his head trying to piece together what happened.

"Yes that's what I have written right here also," the judge responded. The judge turned to the chubby man to Ian's right and said, "Mr. Livingston, it's your time for opening statements."

The man named Mr. Livingston looked up at the judge glowering down on him and stuttered out his words.

"I might have had a little too much to drink while on the road doing a cross country trip. I swear I didn't mean it. I just didn't see him when he bent over. Please have mercy on me."

"I'm afraid the situation is not in your favor Mr. Livingston," the judge said.

The judge flipped through the documents and settled on a page. He turned back to Ian and pointed his gavel toward him.

"Mr. Abrams this seems to be a cut and dry case. There is no need for cross examination. I can see clearly that you were wrongly murdered by Mr. Livingston here. From Mr. Livingston's actions through his lifetime show he has made this mistake multiple times. Even when Angels were sent to whisper in his ear about changing his ways, he continued to drive drunk. If you are both ready. I'm ready to give my final verdict at this time."

"Just to make sure I'm understanding. This guy Livingston just hit me with his truck and now I'm about to go to heaven. What about my family," Ian questioned.

"Yes unfortunately you're dead Mr. Abrams so your family and your life before is over. Fortunately, you picked up enough karma in your life to be reincarnated into a world completely different then your own. Now silence for a moment while I deliver the verdict. In the case of the early death of Ian Abrams, I find the defendant, Paul Livingston, guilty of murder. He will be sentenced to 5000 years in Limbo. After the term is carried out you will be reincarnated and repeat another cycle of living," the judge said with a slam of his gavel.

"Wait please I'll be better don't do this!" Mr. Livingston broke out in hysterics. The judge seeing this just shook his head and slammed his gavel down another time. Mr. Livingston disappeared without a trace into particles of light.

"Did you just kill him," Ian asked.

"No, he has been sent to carry out his sentence in Limbo. Now onto the matter of your reincarnation. Due to your built good karma the world you will be sent to will be one where anything is possible. There is a certain tower run by another God that I will send you to. If you are able to climb through the floors, to the top, you will gain unimaginable power."

"Why not just send me to heaven or back to my own world?"

"Heaven is only for Gods, so by sending you to this tower I'm giving you the chance to climb to the top and become a God. Your time in the previous world is over. Once you're finished there's no going back. There are alternate universes but they are just too similar for me to send you there."

"How am I supposed to climb the tower?"

"It's simple, you will be reborn in the tower and when you come of age an administrator will take you to the floor of tests. You will be forced to grow strong if you hope to reach the top of the tower."

"What happens if I can't climb the tower? I'm in shape but I wouldn't call myself strong per say," Ian said.

"Don't worry I will give you an ability to help your progression through the tower. The ability I'm giving you is called sleep learning. Anything you experience, whether it be fighting, studies, or information, will be automatically memorized after you fall asleep. This will help you to not make the same mistakes twice. The ability should be useful but it will take some time for you to see the true benefits. Even if you decide not to climb, you will still be able to live out your life freely."

"I guess that's not too bad. When do I go?"

"Right now," the judge said with a strike of his gavel. Ian's body disappeared into light particles in the same manner as Mr. Livingston earlier.

Everything went dark in his vision for a moment but a flash of light came over Ian's eyes, replacing the darkness that had formed.

"Mrs. Joy, you did amazing. Excuse me sir, what would you like to name your son?"

"We decided to name him Adom."

A tall man took Ian's hand which had become tiny and whispered to him, "Welcome to the world Adom."
