"Is that what he said?" asked Pete in surprise as he looked at Natasha and she nodded.
"Well if you ask me, he's still a criminal Nat... sorry to say but it's the truth and you and I both know it" said Pete as Natasha sighed, sure it was the truth, but she didn't want to see it that way right now, she still felt guilty, no matter what anyone said.
"I know that you... you somehow became fond of him... but let's face the truth, if he was a righteous man, there would be nothing on him for Agent Dians to keep him there" said Pete as Natasha kept silent and Pete stopped talking, knowing fully well that she was upset right now.
"*Sigh*, Nat are you hungry? should I order you something to eat?" asked Pete as Natasha looked at him and shook her head, here he was eating lunch, while she was sulking, it made him feel bad a bit, even though he did tell her so.
"I'm fine Pete, and I do know that you are right, I will get over it, right now, I just want to know what Dians is up to, he's been too quiet lately, and that's not good" said Natasha.
"I can just imagine, but rest assured that I will try to find out what he's up to" said Pete.
"Thanks Pete" replied Natasha as in that same moment Pete's phone suddenly rang as he removed it from his pocket.
"It's Dians..." he said in shock as he looked up at Natasha.
"What does he want?" asked Natasha.
"I don't know, I am surprised he's calling me" replied Pete.
"Answer it then" replied Natasha as she was curious and Pete nodded as he answered the call.
"Agent Dians, it's very odd for you to be calling me, to what do I owe your call this afternoon?" asked Pete with a smile as he put his phone to his ear.
"Well Lawson, I would have preferred speaking to you in person, but you are not in your office right now" replied Dians.
"Yes I am out for lunch, what can I help you with?" asked Pete.
"I wanted to inform you that I have all the information I need concerning the case that I am currently working on" said Dians.
"Oh is that so?" asked Pete in surprise as Natasha looked at him with questions written all over her face, Pete wished that he could have put the call on speaker, but they were in a public place right now, you could never be too safe.
"Yes, so the man Romanoff will be transferred from your station today, at 6pm latest" said Dians.
"Transferred to where?" asked Pete as Natasha kept silent trying to make out the words she could hear Dians saying.
"To my headquarters for further questioning" said Dians as Pete stood up and walked out the door of the restaurant as Natasha followed behind him, the waiter didn't even try to stop them, he knew Pete well, and he was sure that he would come back to pay for his meal.
"I looked through the several files that Natasha gave me, and I finally found Romanoff's file, he's been serving the organization for several years, I am sure he's spent half his lifetime training to be one of their best agents" said Dians as Pete got into his car and Natasha entered into his car as he put the call on speaker.
"A man of his caliber is not to be trifled with, this man is a murderer, and apart from that I was able to trace him to be the cause of several other crimes that no one took the hit for" said Dians as Pete could hear his concealed happiness.
"With all the information I have I will be able to charge him heftily, I am looking at several counts that will be able to put him in prison for good, my superiors will be very happy when they hear this" said Dians.
"I can just imagine" replied Pete, Romanoff was a very expensive criminal, anyone who brought him in, would be regarded as the best of the best.
"What counts do you consider charging him with?" asked Pete.
"I can't tell you, it's classified for now" said Dians.
"I understand" said Pete as he looked at Natasha and he realised that she would like to know something else, he could see it in her eyes.
"Agent, can you tell me if he will serve for his crimes over here or back in his country?" asked Pete as Natasha nodded as he asked that question.
"He is going to serve for his crimes over here, he was caught here after all, and besides, letting him go to his country to serve for his crimes would be heaven sent, no he needs to pay for his crimes, and that will happen over here" said Dians as Natasha looked like she had just sighed in relief, at least that was what Jean hoped for.
"I am going to ensure that he spends the rest of his life behind bars" said Dians.
"You make it sound as if it is a personal matter" said Pete.
"Not at all, but bad people, deserve bad things, as simple as that" replied Dians.,
"That is true..." replied Pete as he looked at Natasha who was silent.
"You and I both know that hardened criminals like him need to be punished, they have hurt so many people, and karma is real, I guess that I owe that karma to your friend Natasha" said Dians.
"As annoying as she can be, she was of great use to this case" said Dians as he laughed as Pete chuckled and Natasha frowned.
"Which reminds me, have you seen Natasha today?" asked Dians out of the blue as Pete looked at Natasha as she froze and shook her head, she wondered why Dians would ask him that all of a sudden.
Pete looked at her, waiting for her to give him a reply to which Natasha nodded.
"Yes I have seen her" replied Pete.
"When?" asked Dians as Pete looked at Natasha who whispered the words morning and breakfast to him.
"In the morning... we were supposed to have breakfast together, but I bailed on her, I had a urgent matter come up that I could not turn down" said Pete.
"Hmm... interesting, I see..." said Dians as he sounded sceptical, but Pete ignored it.
"So you know that she was at your station earlier today?" asked Dians.
"That I do is there a problem Agent?" asked Pete as there was something about the many questions Dians was asking that did not feel right.
"Nothing, there is no problem at all Lawson, I just needed to feed my curiosity, you and Natasha are very close am I right?" asked Dians.
"Yes, that we are" replied Pete.
"How come?" asked Dians.
"It's a long story Dians, we go a long way, and I trust her and care for her a lot, I know what she can and cannot do, and she is certainly not involved in covering for a criminal, or a bunch of criminals" said Pete as Dians quickly caught the hidden meaning in his words.
"Right, I trust that... and you seem to know more than I know Lawson" said Dians as he laughed.
"And you seem to have left out some important details Agent" replied Pete.
"We are both men of the law here, and you know that leaving out details only means that it is unimportant to other parties" said Dians.
"That I do..." replied Pete.
"Good, so we are on the same page, nice talking to you Lawson, see you at the station soon" said Dians.
"You too agent" replied Pete as Dians ended the call as both he and Natasha sighed in relief.
"That man is just too much..." said Natasha.
"Tell me about it, he's like a dog with a ball, he won't stop until he pops the ball" replied Pete.
"That's why I didn't want you getting involved with him" said Pete with a sigh.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever, don't start Pete, as long as he stays on his lane, I will say on mine" said Natasha.
"Be careful Nat, I would advise not going to see Romanoff any time soon, Dians is watching you" said Pete.
"I know that, and I won't" replied Natasha.
"I need to head to the station now, I'll see you later Nat" said Pete as he got out of the car and Natasha did the same.
"See you later Pete" said Natasha as Pete smiled and walked back to the restaurant to pay for his meal.
Natasha sighed tiredly and shook her head, she needed to trad softly with Dians, something told her that he would be digging deeper in something that he should have left uncovered, and Natasha didn't want to be present while he furthered this investigation of his.
