The rays from the rising sun were shining brightly on the goalkeeper as he ran down the road.
"Isn't it two kilometers yet?" He asked with muffled breathing because of the force with which the air was entering his nose
<Your watch can answer that question for you>
The goalkeeper brought his watch to his view as he kept running to see that he had only run 1.8 kilometers.
"Only one point eight." He said as he kept running.
<Yes and don't stop because if you do you'll have to start from the beginning>
"I know you've told me that like ten times now," He said as he kept running.
People were beginning to come out of their houses now and everywhere he passed he seemed to be getting attention but it wasn't the good kind of attention.
Getting attention was normal for top players in any of Europe's top five leagues but Dave was not on that list and the attention he was getting was for something else.
"That useless basket." An old man said immediately after Dave ran past his house.
"I wonder why Unique FC still plays this guy in the goalkeeping position." Two teenagers walking down the street changed their topic to him immediately after he had run past them.
Dave didn't seem to notice most of this but he did notice the booing he was getting from some of the people in the neighborhood but he wasn't bothered about it as he had already gotten used to it.
"Finally." He said as he looked at his watch which displayed the number, 1.95 with a small km beside it.
He was approaching the pack now and just ran into it, heading for the green fields.
[ Daily quest completed ]
[ Run two kilometers]
[ +10 exp received ]
He slowly sat on the floor after receiving that message and let out a sigh.
[ 30/100 exp ]
<Good running, all you need now to level up is seventy exp>
"Will leveling up automatically turn me into a world-class goalkeeper?" Dave asked.
<You only get slight improvements after leveling up>
<Maybe when you get to a higher level, you'll become a world-class goalkeeper>
"So all I have to do to get experience points is to make this a habit, right?"
<Yeah, but this isn't the only type of quest you will get and besides you still have the gym quest>
"I don't think I can spend two hours in the gym, I rarely spend up to an hour there," Dave said as he slid his hands behind his back. "The work out isn't the problem, it's just that the people there make it difficult a lot of times."
After saying that, there was no response from Catherine so he slowly fell to the floor to relax a bit.
Just when he was about to shut his eyes and get a little rest before anything else his phone began to vibrate in his pocket.
He quickly got up, pulled the smartphone out of his pocket, and clicked the answer button.
"Hey, babe." He said.
"You're unbelievable Dave," Emma spoke through the phone and she wasn't sounding nice in any way.
"What?"
"You just woke up and left without even telling me." She said,
"Sorry, I just went for an early morning jog," Dave said.
"Jog but you don't usually go for jogs." She said her voice began to sound calm now. "Any way you still should have told me."
"I know, I'm coming home right now." He said as he ended the call and quickly got up from the floor.
<Is she your companion?>
"Huh?"
<What you call girlfriend or wife>
"Yes she's my girlfriend and wife to be, she was with me all night. Why didn't you ask the question then?" Dave said.
There was no response from Catherine as he shook his head and began to head home as fast as he could.
Emma was in a white sleeping gown as she prepared the table for breakfast.
While many women would look less attractive in the morning with their make-up off them, Emma still looked as pretty as ever.
Her black curly hair never seemed to get entangled and was always in its curled-up form, her slightly pointed noise and her beautiful pink lips all made up for her beauty.
But none of them brought out her looks more than her big blue eyes that could make any man think he was swimming in the blue sea just by looking into them.
"I just hope he gets here soon." She said as she dropped the jug of water on the table.
A few minutes after dropping the water on the table, the door was pushed open as Dave walked in.
He wasn't panting or anything but his clothes were a bit sweaty.
"What happened to you?" Emma asked, looking at his slightly drenched body.
"As I said, I was jogging," Dave said with both of his hands placed on his knee. "I know I should take a shower before I'm welcomed to eat your breakfast."
"No no no," Emma said before walking up to him.
She pulled him up and slowly led him to the closest seat around the table.
"Sit." She said and Dave did obediently as she said.
"You've started doing morning runs now, huh," Emma said as she sat down at the other end instead of sitting close to him and he knew why.
"You look like you were running under the hot sun for one hour."
"Yeah, that's funny because it's only morning," Dave said.
"Eat your breakfast so you can go take a shower you really need it."
"Ok," Dave said but he still didn't start eating as he kept his gaze on her.
"Are you okay?" Emma asked after taking a bite from her sandwich and noticed that he was still looking at her.
"Yeah," Dave said, snapping out of his daze. "It's just that you keep getting more beautiful every day." He said taking a bite from his sandwich.
"Oh," Emma said with a blush. "Thank you."
Dave concentrated on his meal to try and finish it as first as he could but then his phone began to vibrate in his pocket.
"What now?" He grumbled as he took the phone out of his pocket. "Why is he calling me now?"
"Hello, coach." He said with the phone against his ear.
"Dave, report at the training ground now." The coach spoke through the phone.
The phone was on the loudspeaker as Emma was paying attention to the conversation with her sandwich in her hands.
"I thought we didn't have training until Wednesday," Dave said.
"There has been a change of plans, report to the training ground and we'll tell you more along with the others." He said and quickly ended the call.
'What sort of change of plans is this?' He thought as he turned to face Emma whose facial expression wasn't looking as good as it was when he entered the house.
