"It creates an excruciating pain," he said. "Don't stand up to the king like that next time. He's not merciful to any hybrid and Garnum is designed to kill mixed blood on the spot."

Annah saw how his face contorted briefly with fear before he leaned down and kissed her temple. He let a shuddering breath after awhile. 

"Well, If I was unfortunate yesterday, you could have rid one less hybrid off the list-" Annah humored.

"Don't fucking say that." Ricco drawled coldly.

"I'm joking." she reinforced.

"Not you. " he told her before enclosing her into a tight hug. "Hell, not you..."

And Annah could have sworn that her breathing constricted for how he seemed terrified of something.

"Do you understand now why I can't introduce you to him yet? I might never be able to." he said

"Yeah. If he could hurt you like that without remorse? Why would I want to be introduce to him?" Annah said. "You don't need a permission from someone like him."
