Father, everytime I fight, I feel the pain of my childhood. The bullying, getting separated from my family. I think about my parents every single time.' I couldn't contain my bitterness any longer and I wept silently.
The Messiah held me close to his chest, 'your father was a good man. He was a good father, friend, and husband.' I was left startled, you knew him? 'Arogunde was a friend, he was a childhood friend. An efficient accountant, he could handle the accounts of a nation singlehandedly. He was a virtuous man, loved his family dearly. Do you know how much he loved you? Words can't quantify. He knew death crept closer towards him, he was caught up in a den. Arogunde wanted me to take care of his kids, but I failed. I let him down, I just couldn't save your siblings. He didn't ask for a lot.'
Curiousity mixed with sadness, I asked, "why did they want him dead?"
At this point, I could see the pain in the eyes of the Messiah, "I warned him! I warned Arogunde! No, he didn't listen. He felt he was untouchable, invincible." "Arogunde, these men were dangerous set of people. He claimed no one could harm him. They did! He was wrong. Only if he had listened."
I broke down in tears and thoughts of vengeance echoed in my headspace. 'Who were these people?'
'Kumapayi, Badmus, and some other powerful men in the society. You will find out their names later. Brace yourself up, together, we will bring them to justice.'
I had a long drive around town in a bid to clear my head. The sights were saddening, I had barely hit the road when I saw old men and women wailing and lamenting outside the State pensioners house. I alighted from my car and enquired from an old woman about the situation of things.
'Won o ti San owó wa fún osù méjo, kini ki a ti se eleyii si?'. She claimed they had not been paid for eight months. Complaints kept flying around, 'wahala wa leyin iku Abiola, se won fe ni ko si owó ni?'.
They expressed themselves with so much pain in the language. Desperate and bitter curses were directed at the leaders of the state. They probably deserved it, issues of mismanaged funds, embezzled funds are now evident.
A woman claimed her daughter had been admitted in a hospital for days and was on the verge of death, she needed money to pay. Her only hope was the pension, unfortunately, she met disappointment. I had to give her the money, that was the least I could use to reward her for being disappointed.
I left the scene in greater despair, wondering if the situation of the country could get better. Teachers of schools were being owed for months, the last time civil servants were paid was five months ago. Speaking of civil servants, the president, governors, ministers, senators were not own a dime. Are they not civil servants?
My eyes lit up when I saw a crowd and men in uniform.
'What is going on there? Why is there so much hullabaloo? Why are they pushing the woman? What has she done to the town planning agency?' She kept pleading, 'I don't have any other place to go. This is my only source of livelihood. Ejoor! I have children to take care of'. All these were to no avail, they kept demolishing her stall. Not only hers, about ten others. They claimed the government needed to expand the roads and their stalls were hindering the construction activities. No form of compensation was given to any of the women, they were not provided employment, neither were they given money.
I kept wondering, 'how would they survive, where would they get help from?' I was barely over that, when I saw some met throwing stones at the town planning officials. They also wanted to demolish their shops but they offered resistance. Sirens were wailing, the police threw cans of tear gas to disperse the men but they won't retreat. It seemed like a world war three.
Police officers were also seizing motorcycles from the commercial riders, commercial riders were banned. There was a serious brawl as bottles were being smashed, thrown and broken. Everyone took to their heels, when the police fired their guns, I made my way out of there and I headed back to the arcade.
That was enough sight for a day, I couldn't believe all I saw was in a day. Approximately a thousand people were rendered unemployed in about three hours.
Did they ever wonder what this would do to the situation of the country? Increase in crime rate, increase in level of poverty. Did they ever consider the esteem of their citizens, their healths? This is quite pathetic.
With a heavy heart, I began reflecting on more reasons why these politicians should be punished. They are not to be blamed totally, the citizens of Nigeria expect changes in the system and they expect it rapidly from whoever they elect. He might even promise them money weekly, we are just that gullible and it would turn out he is like most that preceded him. These men would do anything ignoble to occupy the realms of power, then abuse the power.
They believe no one can stop them, 'haha!' That's why God created people like us to check the excesses of these men. I will personally make sure I erase them all.
Now I'm sure the Messiah can hear minds over a mile. He came up to my room, this was quite unusual, he handed to me the picture of a man. He looked quite familiar, but I couldn't really place where I had seen him; probably the TV.
'Son, your sister is outside ready to join you in this mission, I don't want you to spare any life in the house, not even a fly. We are almost done with the cleansing phase and then, the Good Lord will direct us.'
I have never felt this psyched up, I was ready to support the Good Lord's cause even more.
