1. (Return to) Omashu/(Places Not to Be)

A boy drifted down a river, sitting just below the surface. His raven hair with a couple strands of almost hidden grey seems to glow in his unconscious state. The coolness of the water and the water itself soothing his aching muscles and head. As he floated he got closer and closer to the end of a river until finally, his head hit a rock on the shore. Jolted awake, he held his head as he sat on the exceedingly dry riverbed.

"Annabeth…."

Percy sat, his knees curled up into his chest as he cried. Hearing her last words to him over and over in his head. 'Live….live for me, please Percy. I love you, and I'll see you again'

He cried, cried until his eyes wouldn't let him anymore. Then he sat, heart-breaking sobbing sounds ringing through the desolate valley.

Taking a few hours to console himself, he decided to figure out where he was. Taking stock he looked down at his ripped jeans and almost completely worn through camp shirt. After making sure to drink some water before he left, Percy began trekking along the floor of the valley. The barren landscape seemed to undulate on for as far as he could see. The walk soon became boring as his fingers kept fiddling with Riptide in his pocket. The trusty sword giving him some semblance of comfort in his loneliness.

After a few days of walking, he finally saw black smoke start to rise in the distance, usually indicative of some kind of civilisation. Percy had been on the verge of turning back and using the river to navigate the land before he saw that, realising what a kelp for brains decision that was about two days into his journey. In those days it had taken all of his willpower to push out all the negative emotions that were weighing him down. All the memories that were on the tip of his tongue that if he knew the extent of it, would surely destroy him internally.

He increased his pace as he begun to see the dark columns in greater detail. The need for food was not lost on him after seemingly going at least one full day without it, if not longer. As he strode up to the towering mass of grey structures, he felt an instinctive sense of unease that grew with every step. The gigantic red banner hanging over the city gates that he could see from the valley floor, ominously waving in the wind not aiding in his attempts at comfort.

That was when he saw it, something that made him do a double take. Flying down from the sky was a white fluffy creature with horns and…..six legs? Was he dreaming? Where on earth was he? Acknowledging his instincts he hid behind a boulder as the animal descended below the sightlines of the city built precariously atop the rocky plateau. Following them with every bit of stealth he wasn't known for, the animal led him to a circular hole in the side of the mountain. A sewer looking hole that Percy could tell there was water and a whole lot of other things just sitting behind.

That was when he saw the first people he'd seen since he'd woken up. Blessing everything that he wasn't completely alone in the barren wasteland, even with the city right there, he felt thankful. Despite everything in his life pushing him to not trust easily, he always felt like he could tell character apart after being a part of his world and all that came with it for so long. And these people seemed like regular mortals, albeit not American mortals.

Climbing up the side of the near vertical cliff face felt like a breeze. Well, not much can terrify you about that after his Tartarus experience. He felt a shudder leave his body at that memory but contained it in order to listen in from around the bend in the rock.

Sure enough, the monk looking boy with a blue arrow on his head (what was that about by the way?) opened up the pipe and sewage came spilling out sending the animal, whatever it was, flying away in disgust. The three children that he could now make out clearly made their way into the tunnel. Two Inuit looking kids, a boy and a girl, looking no older than sixteen and fourteen respectively. The monk kid looked like he was 10, although he wasn't exactly sure. The bald head threw him off a bit. Now he wasn't known for his intellect but that's not saying he wasn't at least intuitively smart. He was wondering why these kids were sneaking around in sewers but he was distinctly aware that it had at least something to do with the red banner hanging not a hundred feet above all of them. The red looked so evil, and something about it was rubbing him the wrong way. Granted he always had a predisposition to blue. His mother made sure of that in the best way possible and he loved it. Oh the blue food, the heaven. Now missing food even more, and becoming increasingly homesick he decided to shove that train of thought to the side. The fire symbol however, was a bad sign.

I mean, blue would look so much cooler. he thought In the limited and obviously short time he spent in a science classroom (when things weren't blowing up which was most definitely, mostly, not his fault), he remembered that blue fire was hotter. It was one thousand percent cooler looking too, so why not have blue fire…. He was brought out of his musings by an exceedingly loud "ewww" from the blue clothed boy. Now there was a people that had the right colour in mind. Anyway, it was no surprise he had that reaction. With the things he could sense in the water and the way he could almost feel the smell hitting him, he had no doubt that was a fair reaction.

Deciding he had no better option, he continued to follow them into the sewer pipe, he made his way behind the group. Seeing that they were making quite a rush of the water, he was intrigued. He could only hear the third one complaining about getting sewer water all over him. Percy could also sense the water being moved in front of the first two children. Could they…control water? Was his father a lot busier than he thought? Or were his problems a whole lot worse than that? These were questions for later.

Seeing them climb out of the sewer, he gave them a minute and then used some water to hold up the man hole cover. Poking his head out slightly, he saw there were soldiers in what looked like samurai gear out of some of the old fashioned movies he saw little bits of when he was younger. So this place was somewhat like Asia? Was he in Asia? Why?

"He has pentapox sir" the girl of the group said to the guard people. They seemed to buy it but it was an obvious ruse. They had nothing on the Stolls. Percy saw the little five tentacled octopuses…wait five tentacled octopuses? Octopi? Never mind, what he did know was that in all of his dad's seas, in all the rivers and lakes on Earth were there any such thing as five tentacled octopi. At least, not a species of them.

Seeing as his musings had left him alone in the street, he decided now would be as good a time as any to sneak out. Finding the nearest alleyway (not his first time), he collapsed. Deathly tired, he just collapsed into the shadows, drifting off into sleep.

At first he was woken by a rockslide in his dream, falling down a steep incline to him and some other people in similar garbs to what he had seen the guards in before. Shocked awake, Percy swore he could feel the ground rumbling beneath him but he disregarded it.

It was probably a result of my dream in one way or another, he thought. Then he drifted off into an unusually peaceful, dreamless sleep. The first time in longer than he could remember.

The son of Poseidon woke up to the Sun bearing down on him. From its position it looked to be midday. Seeing that he was no longer under the cover of shadows, he slipped out of the alley and climbed up onto the roofing.

It definitely had an Asian feel to it. But not modern Asia. More like the ancient cultures of Asia with the architecture. Architecture that….nope not going there. I can't afford a break down in the middle of the day.

Once again forcing those thoughts from his mind, he took in his surroundings. There was a group of people in very distinctly green clothing gathered in a town square of some kind. Whilst it wasn't blue, it was an improvement on the fire red of the guards and seemingly ruling class of this city, whatever it was called.

He saw the monk person zipping across the rooftops as the people were walking in a zombie-like fashion. A bell rang out across the city, or small town for him. The pentapox ruse, they were using it again? Why?

Foregoing any curiosities he may have had about the situation, his stomach growled its loudest since coming out of the Doors, so he decided that abandoning a city due to a fake disease was probably his best option for scavenging some food from these now empty houses.

I mean, it's not like they are going to be needing it now.

Taking the full day to recover from the hunger and the fatigue truly did him wonders. Taking some water from the house that he realised was quite close to the central large structures of the city, he gave himself an impromptu shower and his skin got back its natural glowing tan that had been lost from the days of trekking.

That's when he saw a shadow pass through his window. A box carried by four of those guards, this time they all wore the skeleton fatigues. Well, they had nothing on the real thing. His cousin and his experience made his fear of anything symbolising death to be basically moot.

The carriage seemed to be the kind that royalty would sit in. A transparent silk sheet that outlined a rather grumpy figure of a woman in red. Ugh, wrong colour again, he complained.

His interest was piqued though, as his eyes followed the palanquin up the main street and decided that this was as good a time as any to leave his temporary residence….or his squatting location. Packing a bag of essentials, it's probably more like a satchel, like some fruit and a waterskin which he found was the only available water holding device, he left the relative safety of the house and crept up alongside the guards, keeping to the direct shadows of the alleyways. He was truly starting to think he was sent back in time, a terrifying thought that he decided to push to the back of his mind until given further evidence.

His eyes caught on another young girl walking next to the palanquin in pink. She seemed to have a bounce in her step and a playful attitude, or at least, that was his first impression. He didn't get a good chance to look at her due to his ducking and weaving.

As they all approached the steps towards the ruling classes palace, whatever system they used here, another girl of about the same age of the other two was waiting. Percy stopped off to the side of the courtyard area and took a second to really take in these new people. The third girl was probably something similar to a goth girl if he was back home. He was reminded slightly of Thalia as saw the royal chick get out of her ride. They all looked about his age too, around 16-17 although he could've been wrong. They held themselves as adults. Or, more accurately, two of them did.

"Please tell me you're here to kill me"

Yup, definitely was at least somewhat accurate in my prediction, he mentally high fived himself. These girls were obviously close. The goth one he heard Azula describe as May or something like that.

He was caught up in thinking about how accurate his prediction of the second bubbly girl was as she flung herself into Mai's arms only to miss something about the circus and calling. He picked up the last part of their interaction though. Based on that girls comment, Azula called her to do something. Percy didn't miss the self-satisfied and egotistical smirk that adorned the girl who he know thought was Azula's face as the other still unnamed girl mentioned. That smirk was something Percy felt with a little déjà vu but the feeling was gone before he could even figure out who it was it reminded him of. He left them to drift into the palace of sorts, as it was undergoing heavy construction and stayed in the shadows of the house closest to where the girls were.

Taking a moment to get all of his information filed away, he finally got a bearing of where he was. He had followed them towards a structure of scaffolding that looked to be hiding away a statue that wouldn't be out of place in Ancient Greece or Rome. Or for that matter, the arrogance of the Olympians. The statue was definitely rubbing him the wrong way.

In his infinite wisdom, he decided to see if he could glean some information off any of the statue's plaques or descriptions that might be at such a monument. Taking his time, he climbed some of the scaffolds to see if he could get a glimpse of the head that lay on top of the very large body of the statue.

Before long though, he sensed more than heard the coming fight, as his body twitched in anticipation, out of his control. Looking over the edge he saw the three kids from earlier standing on one side of the large stretch of wooden decking, surrounding the base of the statue.

He turned his head up to hear cackling from above him and getting closer. He moved as far back into the scaffolding as he could to not be seen but it was to no avail. The cackling stopped momentarily as a very old grandpa-looking man was lowered down from a crane above. As soon as he was seen, Percy felt his very soul was being looked into. The grandpa hummed in something akin to curiosity, recognition and something else that made Percy consider what the old man truly knew about who he was and how. But before long, the man was cackling down at the three who were now joined by the three girls he'd seen earlier. It felt, at least to Percy, that the momentary lapse in the old man mask was nothing but a hallucination, but he knew more than to hope that was actually true.

"Hi everybody!" The crazy old man yelled. Curious as to why he was in a metal box, Percy looked on from his vantage point. The man was swung down behind the girls.

"You brought my brother" the girl, Mai said. So this is what the Mexican stand off was for. They stole the girls brother. They didn't seem like kids who would do that, although Percy knew no one was exactly as they appeared.

"He's here. We're ready to trade" The monk seemed to be the unofficial leader of the three, although the baby (Mai's brother Percy assumed) was being all adorable in the older boys arms.

Just as it seemed to be a simple enough trade off, Percy knew he wouldn't get so lucky and neither would they, Ms Royal Grumpy Chick, or Azuly or whatever insane name she had, butted in to the negotiations.

"I'm sorry, but a thought just occurred to me."

Percy had heard manipulators before, even godly ones so he recognised her tone and knew nothing good was about to happen. Especially when Goth Mai acquiesced to her "request". Percy knew a demand when he heard one. The level of superiority in her tone just gave him shivers, in the worst kind of way. Well, at least he knew she was a princess now, so I guess that authority and ego made sense and came from somewhere.

"We're trading a two year old for a king. A powerful Earthbending king. It just doesn't seem like a fair trade. Does it?" She continued

Woah, woah, woah, earthbending. What is that?! I'm sure I would've heard of that. Percy panicked. 'No, this isn't in the past. I must be on some other Earth or something. NO!' He internally screamed. Cussing out the fates in his head for all they were worth.

Caught up in how much crap he now found himself in, he missed the inevitable deal gone sour. Only to be shocked to find the monk boy fly past his little hiding place.

Wait fly?! He jumped up and moved back towards the statue and away from even more prying eyes as he was sure everyone's eyes were following the FLYING CHILD! He also felt the leftovers of some intense heat from down below that he couldn't explain.

"The avatar." He heard pompous princess say in a somewhat shocked and somewhat gleeful tone. Well, as gleeful as his experience would leave him to think she was capable of. "My lucky day".

He then saw her run through the bottom of the scaffolding leaving him guessing as to where she was. Backing away from anything and everything, he brought out his pen, ready for an ambush. Thankfully, he was calmed by the princess flying up what looked like a vertical zipline through a hole in the structure. He looked down to see the two girls attacking the blue kids, who he now assumed were siblings with they were bickering about getting out of there.

Percy honestly didn't know what he was looking at until he saw the blue girl moving water with her hands. He was so shocked that he almost missed looking up and seeing the princess blast fire at monk kid. Which was somehow deflect by the kid waving his staff around. He didn't question it, but he guessed that answered his question of where the intense heat from before came from.

"Well you may be pretentious and egotistical but at least you've got the right idea with the blue fire" Percy grumbled to himself as he started to descend the scaffold. Ignoring the wailing old man falling with the "avatar" behind him.

Choosing to focus on his surroundings for a second, he saw said avatar flying down a rollercoaster-esque path on top of grandpa earthbender with Azula hot, literally, on his heels. He wasn't going to deny she looked like a badass while doing it but he turned his focus on the closer battle to him. The waterbender (he assumed that was what it was called) was deflecting the daggers and arrows shot at her by the goth chick and it was a pretty impressive sight. Including some impressive control over the freezing of the water. That was until the bubbly gymnast decided to poke her a few times and she couldn't do anything. It seemed like the two girls were going to overpower this fellow water user, and Percy wasn't going to let them kill her, especially not without figuring out how she used the water.

"How are you going to fight without your bending?" Mai taunted, brandishing what looked to be like a trident style dagger, or some ancient throwing knife.

Percy uncapped his sword and threw it with some impressive accuracy, knocking the dagger out of the girl's hand.

"Uhhhhh…hey ladies?" he said, in his usual Percy-like brilliance.

"Ooooo he's…." the bubbly girl was swiftly cut of as a boomerang hit her on the side of her head, cutting off a bit of hair too.

The big fluffy animal thingy came down and used its tail, slapping both girls and Percy across the whole deck. Percy flying deep into the base of the beams and supports.

His last thought before he lost consciousness was how he could've handled that in so many better ways, as about half of the structure collapsed in on top of him.

Percy woke up to the feeling of chains being wrapped around his wrists and ankles as cuffs were put on. He squinted as the bright light of the fading sun burned his eyes. He saw the three girls standing over him. He felt one of the guards haul his up to my feet.

"Who is he? He's kinda cute" Percy heard the circus girl say, who now had a bandage wrapped around her head with a little bit of dried blood on it.

"It doesn't matter. If he's a friend of the avatar, he'll be useful." The oh so wonderful princess stated, matter-of-factly. Percy was pulled along with them by a couple of guards, they seemed to have picked up a few extra from whatever town they were in.

"So we're going to tracking down your brother and uncle huh?" Mai questioned, obviously to Azula.

"It'll be interesting seeing Zuko again, won't it Mai?" The ponytailed girl teased. Taking Mai's reaction into consideration, Zuko was someone she was quite fond of as it was the first time Percy had seen her smile. Useful information, must be Princess' brother considering how old the uncle would be.

"It's not just Zuko and Iroh, we have a third target now. And this savage will help us Ty Lee"

So that is her name, wait savage. Well I mean, I am not in the best clothes I've ever been in but still.

"Hey I'm not a…" Percy was cut off but a swift spear shaft to the gut. The spear did nothing more than wind him slightly. The shaft, however, was not so lucky. It shattered against his abdomen getting the procession to halt and have all the weapons drawn at him. He saw Mai raise a slight eye brow as Ty Lee went full wide eyed at the display. However Azula just stared forward. Interesting, Percy was finding her increasingly interesting and more familiar. He just couldn't put his finger on it.

Percy just shrugged and signalled that he hadn't done anything. His arms and legs still very much in chains. Granted a little of his water powers or earth shaking could quite easily break them, but he figured that there wasn't much they could do to hurt him. He was useful to them, or so they thought, and he wanted to get as much information out of them as he could. They also intrigued him, so he could take some punishment as it was negligible compared to what he had experienced in the past.

Taking in his new group, whether or not he was a prisoner, he could see the very obvious relationships within the group. Their personalities were all very different, but he knew they were old friends. Or at least, the two who weren't the fire princess. She was a different type of person, he was just starting to figure out. This was going to be a long journey, but anything to take his mind off of everything from his past.
