Meeting Dallas made everything much heavier, and I prayed I was wrong the whole run to the summit of Pikes Peak. It wasn't fair, and it didn't matter that fair was a concept I wasn't supposed to indulge in because it just wasn't. Fate was cruel, and the longer we ran, the more I thought of that idea. I wanted Valen or Kali to tell me it was impossible for someone to feel the death of their mate when they'd never met, but their silence was answer enough. So, no, the universe was cruel and unforgiving in my eyes.
