Arthur decided to make the potion in the kitchen.

The first time he had come here, Arthur expected an open space with clay earth, or wet compacted sand, a simple place to cook fish.

He was wrong.

It wasn't anything marvelous by modern-day standards, but he was sure the Black Pearl shouldn't have a kitchen like this one.

The room wasn't big, there was a counter in the middle with pots and cutlery haging above. To the left was another counter with a clay stove upon it. A barrel, which Arthur assumed was to be filled with water, stood on the side while in the other were empty shelves. To the right, there were only barrels with taps on them, so he assumed they're for alcohol.

Arthur took one of the pots hanging, walked around the middle counter, and filled it with water. After lighting up the stove, he put the pot on it and waited for the water to finish boiling. Taking a smaller pot, Arthur filled it with some oil and waited for it to boil, being the point where he would add the crushed lavender leaves.

The process after that was fairly simple and it only took half an hour to make the potion.

Looking at the viscous mauve liquid in the pot, Arthur swallowed hard. He poured it on a tankard, tilted his neck back, and drank it.

Gulp! Gulp!

The potion flowed down his throat, and Arthur felt like his head was going to burst from the information appearing on his mind.

He was seeing double, seeing and hearing things that shouldn't be there. He remembered that amongst all Sequence 9, Mystery Pryers were those that should be the most careful, for they could see and hear certain existences that hide among matter.

Arthur tried to use the method of Cogitation taught to Klein by Old Neil from the novel. First, imagine a circle in your mind, and trace it till you feel better. Once done, imagine a unique object that doesn't exist in the real world.

It took a couple of tries, but Arthur was able to calm down.

"I've become a Beyonder!"

Following that, he looked down on his body. Even though it was not the main point of the potion, he could feel he was stronger than before. His memory and ability to understand things had been enhanced, for he could now remember details he had forgotten and understand that which had stumped him before.

As a Mystery Pryer, Arthur had received rudimentary knowledge and grasp of magic, witchcraft, astrology, rituals, and other mystical knowledge.

He was also able to use Spirit Vision, and determine if a person was healthy or not and their emotions, as well as if something has a magical aura.

Remembering how to activate Spirit Vision, Arthur decided to give it a try. He raised his hand in front of his eyes with his index fingers pointing towards each other without touching. Focusing on a point behind his hands, he slowly moved his hands away while maintaining his pose. Suddenly he could see colors that were not there before.

Looking around himself, Arthur noticed the whole ship seemed to have a magical aura, which was obvious considering Sabrina.

'Speaking of which, I wonder how does she look when I see her with this,' thought Arthur. Turning around, he observed Sabrina, and admitted to himself she looked even more ethereal.

While she looked beautiful no matter what, with Spirit Vision, it was like seeing something in HD. The colors were more vibrant, her red hair looking like fire. She seemed more solidity too, Arthur didn't know if that was because of the Spirit Vision or something he only noticed now, and she was slowly becoming solid.

Feeling slightly tired, Arthur turned the vision off. Now, what he had to do was eat something.

"Congratulations on becoming a Beyonder, Captain," said Sabrina with a small smile.

"Thank you," answered Arthur. "Shall we eat?"

...

Later, Arthur could be found on the deck listening to Sabrina. He was now studying how to be a good captain.

Sabrina had had many captains before, each with their own style. She took what she saw in common on most of them, and the good parts she thought were important and explained to Arthur.

Besides that, there were also how to manage a ship. For now, was only the basics, and when they had a need to sail, Sabrina would be doing most of the work. But Arthur would continue to study both with Sabrina and the Obscure Tome, and little by little he would be gaining more and more to do.

While on a break, Arthur decided to ask something that was on his mind for some time.

"Tome, do you have a name?"

The tome opened once again, this time it stopped on the second page where words came into existence.

[Yes, I'm Harion, a pleasure to meet you.]

"The pleasure is mine," answered Arthur. "So, Harion, do you know what these crystals around us are?"

This time the page came to stop showing a draw of the crystals above, and below it was a description.

[Makdenia Crystals are excellent material for ritual, witchcraft, magic, potions, and the creation of Beyonder weapons. Very valuable, it fetches high price with both Beyonders and normal people, for the crystals are also used in jewelry.]

'Well, I guess I know what to sell to get some money now,' thought Arthur with a wry smile.

Arthur knew he couldn't take too much of it with him when he left the island for the first time. First, if the crystals were that precious, selling too much would cut on his profits. Second, if he took too much, people would wonder where he took it from, and that meant trouble he didn't need. With the Navigator's Map, he could always come back here later on.

He was also wondering about how to get a crew. Arthur was sure that he could stop anywhere, and there would be people willing to join him. His problem was how to make sure they didn't betray him later.

Arthur would take a week to research the subject, explore some more of the secrets of the island, and then he would set sail.

'Wonder if I'll meet Alger at some point?'
