I and Pyrrha stood across one another as we prepared to battle one another, awaiting Goodwitch to hit the buzzer that would start the fight.
Apparently Ruby and Jeanne had told a bunch of other people that we were looking to fight, and enough people were interested in seeing the Invincible Girl who won several championships from her homeland of Mistral, do battle against the man who was named her leader, that Goodwitch basically commandeered our fight saying if three or so dozen people were going to watch we might as well fight in her classroom with actual seating for everyone.
"Pyrrha this is Beacon, not some showy tournament. Make sure to use your Semblance." I said as I unsheathed Virtuous Contract and held it in front of myself. I had little interest in fighting someone who had some kind of mental complex about using their superpower in order to win a fight, especially in a school that's sole purpose was to train people to serve humanity by killing monsters.
So, if necessary, I was ready to beat Pyrrha to the point she realized she had no choice but to use her Semblance to even make it an even playing field.
"You can try to make me use it, Jake." She said competitively with a friendly smile.
"Alright! Jake, Pyrrha this battle is until either rings out or the first to reach ten percent Aura level. This is a standard duel held to the same standards as the ones in my teaching hours... Do not treat this a game lest you desire the opportunity to clean a dozen rooms here in Beacon."
Yeah, the staff here in Beacon was severely lacking in personnel as most people didn't want to make the semi-dangerous commute to and from Vale here so the few people who did work and live here that weren't teachers typically were focused on cooking for the few hundred students as well as fixing the more complicated technical issues that Goodwitch couldn't fix with a wave of her riding crop.
Therefore the teachers of Beacon basically used us, students, as janitorial services and only hired some temp workers later on in the year after the students shaped up and didn't cause them any more problems.
Goodwitch after warning us not to play around hit the buzzer and the loud buzzer rang out with an ear-shaking din.
As soon as the buzzer went off Pyrrha threw her javelin at me and as I smacked it aside, she had already sprinted over and attempted to brain me with my shield but I ducked under it and sent a slash at her shins with my sword that she cartwheeled over.
I threw a condensed fireball at her that she cut apart with her sword that she picked up and mecha-shifted from her javelin but the moment she dashed through the smoke and flames she was met with the vicious uppercut from my Guardian that smashed into her breastplate.
The room broke out into calls of excitement as the large dark blue shadow guardian hovered from behind me. Thankfully no one seemed to link my Guardian to a Grimm as instead of being pure black Grimm with white bones and some red tribal sort of marks, my Guardian's skin tone was a dark blue with some purple streaks and most importantly, rather than the usual Grimm eyes that were a scary glowing red, my Guardian's eyes were a dark yellow.
"I don't even need my sword to beat you Pyrrha..." I spoke proudly as I used my wind magic to levitate and lightly lean back in the air with my arms folded over my chest in the same pose that Ansem would use in battle.
Pyrrha frowned at my cocksure attitude but when the probing gunfire she shot out of her rifle did absolutely nothing to my Guardian she smiled with excitement as her weapons were coated in a purple aura and she ran at me with my Guardian in front of me with its own arms held out ready to meet Pyrrha's charge.
I was still levitating with my Guardian in front of me but as I remembered Goodwitch's orders not to toy around, so I decided to get involved as well as my Guardian was manhandling Pyrrha with its superior strength I flew up around her and kicked her upside the head making her do two cartwheels from the force of my lightly armored pants colliding with her head and send her careening across the arena's ground.
I looked up and saw that Pyrrha's Aura was sitting around sixty percent as my one kick made her lose a bit more than a quarter of her aura, but then again, I did hit her hard enough that even I lost a bit of aura myself at the impact.
My Guardian instantly teleported in front of me as Pyrrha laid a hail of gunfire at me as she noticed I looked away from her fight with my Guardian. "Well, that's not quite that fair..." She said drily at how my Guardian could teleport to me.
"Wanna know what else is unfair?" I asked with an evil grin as I threw Virtuous Contract and began magnetically controlling it with my magic.
"What?" Pyrrha grimaced as she swatted my sword aside and I in turn pushed her Aura off my blade keeping her Polarity Semblance from affecting my sword as it flew back to me.
My Guardian answered, as its fists were coated in dark flames and began treating Pyrrha's shield as a speed bag, trying its best to break through her shield with an avalanche of powerful blows that had no end in sight as my Guardian didn't have a human issue in needing to wind up its punches with how its limbs could stretch and compact like rubber.
Pyrrha was definitely strong, but I stole her leverage as I coated the ground in ice and even as she managed to ward off the blows from my Guardian, she was eventually smashed off the arena.
A loud buzzing rang out as our battle ended by ringing out, and I looked over to Goodwitch. "This battle is over by ring out, Jake you shouldn't have played around Pyrrha unless using that Aura construct takes your concentration to control it." She spoke before turning to Pyrrha. "Pyrrha you should have used your semblance more as I can see that it augmented the power you had in swinging your weapons as well as steadying your shield when his summon was attacking you. However, the biggest piece of advice I can give you is to have a teammate to attack the summoner or you yourself should use a larger dust bomb to incapacitate someone who fights similarly as the summon wouldn't be able to protect him from a large explosion." Goodwitch advised.
My face couldn't help but twitch as I heard Goodwitch nonchalantly telling the nodding and thoughtful once Invincible Girl to get a bunch of bombs to blow me up and as Goodwitch dismissed us I damn near tripped as I heard Pyrrha call out. "Hey Nora, can I get some of your time."
I am going to die here...
