Yuanxiao, the last day of the New Year and the actual Lantern Festival. Yan Zheyun thought about the Young Master Huang who lived in his memories, resplendent in the warm glow of candlelight as he'd stood by the stall and watched Yan Zheyun answer riddle after riddle.
(1) Descriptions from Song Dynasty poet Xin Qiji’s love poem Qing Yu An (written sometime between 1172-1191AD), which paints a beautiful picture of the sights of the Lantern Festival, which a man passes by while searching for a glimpse of his beloved.
(2) Yuanxiao was regarded as a romantic festival in ancient times because this was one of the few days where young unmarried women were allowed to interact with young unmarried men in public without censure, especially since for the festival, curfew was relaxed so the hours these sweethearts were spending together were out of the norm and would be scandalous otherwise.
A/N: Thank you very much for reading! <3 I know things feel a bit angsty atm because of the way our MC and ML keep dancing around each other with second and third guesses but it's because neither of them can afford to drop their guard with serious repercussions. I promise they'll sweeten up! Really! ><;;
