The Trinity of the Vishanti had not given up on Abel; they still hoped to bring him under their command, intending for him to inherit the title of Sorcerer Supreme after the Ancient One.
In the Ancient One's memory, the Vishanti Trinity had never shown such interest in any other mage. Abel was the first person in years whom the Vishanti were so eager to recruit.
Although the Ancient One had never mentioned it outwardly, she understood well that the Vishanti Trinity valued Abel for his entirely independent magic system, distinct from any other magic in this world.
Magic authority requires the spreading and teaching of magic, thereby becoming a source for a particular type of magic. The more widespread the source and greater the followers, the stronger the magic authority. Thus, the Ancient One understood that the Vishanti Trinity wanted to bring Abel under their command to integrate his magic system into their own, becoming a new source of magic and enhancing their authority.
So, even though the Vishanti knew the Ancient One was reluctant to work with them, they still permitted her to keep in touch with Abel. This was also why the Ancient One had recently been restricted to Kamar-Taj and the Three Sanctums, unable to leave freely, yet she was able to come here at Abel's invitation.
In short, the Ancient One was now effectively under house arrest by the Vishanti, and Abel was her only hope for freedom.
Therefore, the Ancient One never chose to refuse Abel's requests.
Suspended in the air, the Ancient One looked down at the barren mountain and waved her hand. Enormous arrays appeared around the mountain, completely isolating it. After setting up the barrier, she sat cross-legged in the air, guarding the mountain.
Meanwhile, Abel looked at the dark ruby floating in front of him, took a deep breath, raised his wand, and cast the Fiendfyre spell.
A jet of black and red Hellfire shot from the wand's tip, striking the dark ruby. The continuous heat eventually connected with the Hellfire authority inside the ruby. With a slight flick of his wrist, Abel carefully reversed the Fiendfyre spell, retracting the Hellfire and slowly drawing out the Hellfire authority from the ruby. The Hellfire traveled through the wand and was gradually absorbed into his body.
As the central conduit, the wand endured significant pressure. Fortunately, it was of high quality, and Abel was careful not to rush. Though Hellfire was intensely volatile, Abel's careful control prevented major disruptions as he absorbed it into his body through the wand.
As time passed, Abel was surprised by the sheer power held in just five percent of the Hellfire authority.
Previously, when casting the Fiendfyre spell, the Hellfire authority was more like a borrowed force. When Abel cast the Fiendfyre, that trace of Hellfire authority was temporarily under his control. But once the spell ended, the authority would dissipate, making it impossible to reuse.
Thus, Abel only had a vague understanding of the Hellfire authority's power. Now that he was truly absorbing it, he realized that gaining this authority was no easy feat, even with extensive preparations.
While Abel focused on absorbing the Hellfire authority, the Ancient One sensed magical shadows approaching the mountain. She raised her hand and summoned a thick red current, sweeping around the mountain and erasing any shadow that dared to draw near.
However, the Ancient One knew these shadows were mere spies sent by those eager for Hellfire's power. Such entities couldn't resist the allure of Hellfire, particularly anything linked to the underworld.
In the Hell dimension, Mephisto was known as its ruler due to his vast authority there. However, several other demons held portions of Hell's authority. The most famous was the former archangel Lucifer, known as Satan after his fall. He possessed Hell's authority second only to Mephisto and was now one of the most powerful demons in the Hell dimension.
Satan, however, showed little interest in Hell's dominion, as he intended to return to Heaven and control celestial power, so he rarely clashed with Mephisto.
Back to the present, as Abel continued absorbing Hellfire's authority, countless demons hiding on Earth were drawn to him. Some sought the power for themselves, while others acted on behalf of their masters, like the Wind Demon, Earth Demon, and Water Demon. They all gathered on the outskirts of the wilderness.
Sensing the demons' approach, the Ancient One rose once more. Hovering in midair, she lifted her hand, conjuring a massive magic circle above her palm. The circle harnessed a vast power, transforming into bright lightning that struck down from the sky, driving back the approaching demons. Many of the weaker ones fell to her attack.
Just as the Ancient One was about to lower her guard, a figure appeared in the air. It was a male human sorcerer with long red hair and two short horns on his forehead. He looked at the Ancient One and said, "Long time no see, Ancient One!"
The Ancient One's expression turned solemn as she addressed him, "Velasco, as the Lord of Hell's Border, why are you here?"
The Hell's Border, as the name suggests, is the region of the Hell dimension closest to Earth. Velasco, once a human wizard, had gained an invulnerable, immortal body through sacrifices to the ancient gods.
He had seized part of Hell's authority and become the ruler of Hell's Border. Typically, rulers of outer dimensions weren't permitted on Earth, which explained the Ancient One's surprise at his appearance here.
Velasco looked at the Ancient One with a hint of triumph and said, "Ancient One, I once told you that without the Vishanti's protection, you could never defeat me. I'm here to prove that without the Vishanti watching over you, you are nothing to me."
With those words, an illusory version of Hell's Border materialized, enveloping the wilderness and the barren mountain.
