Bab 58: Chapter 58

Boom! Boom!

A large number of stalagmites and stone spears suddenly erupted from the ground, rushing toward Abel. Instead of relying on the levitation spell, which lacked speed, Abel opted for quick evasive maneuvers, aware that his invisibility had been nullified.

The Earth Demon's forces had been reduced to less than half, and the tide of battle was shifting in Abel's favor.

Saxa Volatilis!

A blue-white ring of flame expanded outward again, flinging nearby demons backward. Abel followed up by releasing a torrent of flames with the Flame Curse and swiftly cast Transfiguration to transform the fire into a wall, obscuring the demons' sight. He knew that ordinary flames wouldn't harm these hellish creatures but intended to use the wall of fire as cover.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Three half-human-sized fireballs shot toward the Earth Demon. Unfazed, the demon's arm morphed into a giant warhammer, smashing the fireballs apart with ease. Flames scattered from the impact, giving Abel the opportunity he needed.

As the fire obscured the demon's view, Abel flicked his wand rapidly, shooting thin red beams of light. Each struck the Earth Demon, causing several small explosions across his body. The demon's hands healed quickly from the damage, though, and he smirked.

"Is that all you've got? Hand over the Saint Van Gonzal contract now, mage, or death will be the least of your worries—eternal torment awaits you."

But Abel remained calm, a faint smile playing on his lips. He wasn't concerned about the approaching demons.

"That spell was just to move you back a bit. Now the real magic show begins—Fiendfyre!"

From the tip of Abel's wand, black and red flames surged forth like a rising tide, devouring the ground as they spread.

The sight of these flames stunned Abel for a moment. He had used the Fiendfyre curse before, but these flames looked and felt completely different. In his previous life, Fiendfyre was just a dangerous spell, but here, it seemed... alive. This world's version of the curse had evolved, summoning the true fires of hell.

Unbeknownst to Abel, his casting of Fiendfyre had far-reaching consequences. Johnny, detained at a nearby police station, suddenly transformed into the Ghost Rider, unable to control the urge. Mephisto himself, seated on his throne in hell, opened his eyes, sensing the disturbance.

"Who dares tap into the power of hell?" Mephisto muttered. "Beyond my knight, who else dares to wield the fire of hell?"

Back in the fight, Abel struggled to maintain control over the hellfire. In his previous life, Fiendfyre was just a magical fire. Here, it had the essence of hell itself. As the flames consumed the demons, Abel realized how destructive it truly was—hellfire did not spare even demons. The creatures of hell were reduced to ash, their bodies dissolving into fiery oblivion.

Wielding the wand with all his might, Abel directed the black and red flames toward the Earth Demon.

"Hellfire?! You wield the power to control the fire of hell!" the Earth Demon cried, retreating in fear. The creature had never felt threatened by ordinary flames, but hellfire was different. It was the one force even demons dreaded.

Abel remained focused, pouring all his strength into controlling the fiery serpents. He had no time to answer the demon's plea, putting everything into directing the flames. The Earth Demon continued to back away, terror filling his eyes as the hellfire closed in.

"Please! Spare me! Have mercy!" the demon begged, his voice cracking.

But there was no escape. The hellfire coiled around him, seeping into his body, consuming him from the inside out. Cracks formed along the surface of his skin, glowing with internal flames. His body shattered like broken pottery, crumbling into ashes, his cries of anguish echoing through the battlefield as the hellfire claimed him.

Abel surveyed the carnage, seeing the remnants of the demons now lifeless in the hellfire's wake. His victory came at a price, however. As he lowered his wand, he noticed a barely perceptible crack along its surface. His face darkened. The sheer power of the hellfire had caused his wand to crack.

Though the damage was minor for now, Abel knew this was no small issue. If left unchecked, it could lead to greater problems later.

With a heavy heart, Abel recited the reversal spell, calling the hellfire back into the wand. Slowly but surely, the flames receded, disappearing into the magical core.
