[Thinis, 3150 BCE]
I am standing between a crowd of people, shouting at the podium in front of them. Some were cheering, some were throwing insults, while some just stood quietly in the corner.
The war has ended, and it is now time to crown the king of a unified Egypt, and now, they are waiting for Narmer to go out of the palace, to be crowned as King.
"A quite majestic crowning ceremony." someone beside me stated, I looked at my side, and saw that it was Sersi, standing with a head scarf to hide her identity, as she was quite famous around here.
I hummed. "It's good now that this place is united."
"But it was built upon a war..." She murmured.
"You didn't like it?" I asked, amused. "It is the only way though… one conquering the other, the two cultures of the two areas are too different to be united, the only similarities they have is that they lived near the Nile."
She was quiet for a while, then she spoke. "Is it right though? to let them go to war like that..."
"Really?" I chuckled. "You asked that now?"
"I was just thinking."
I sighed. "We may be Immortal Sersi… but we don't get to choose on how Humanity would carry themselves, we're only guiding them."
"But so much death could be prevented..."
"At the cost of what? More death?" I questioned.
"What do you mean?" she asked, confused at my words.
"I already told Druig about this..." I murmured. "But this place must be united, otherwise they would just be bullied by their neighbours, and in term, cause more death. With this war, they would be united, their progress would escalate, and they could defend themselves from outside threats."
She just hummed, and finally, Narmer walked out of the palace, all dressed in his royal clothing, and beside him was his new wife, Neithhotep.
A priest also walked to the podium, bringing two 'crowns'. As Narmer stood in the middle of the podium, the priest bowed, and he kneeled before Narmer, presenting the two crowns.
One crown was white, it was Upper Egypt's crown, and the other was red, it was Lower Egypt's crown.
He then wore the white one first, then the rest. As he finished wearing the crown, thousands of people cheered, signalling the birth of a new dynasty.
"People of the Two lands!" Narmer announced as he wore his majestic crown. "Long have we been separated! Now, we are united as one! And I will lead you, as your chosen! As your leader! As your God-King!"
As soon as Sersi heard the phrase 'God-King', she frowned. But the crowd didn't really have a problem with it, and continued to cheer even more loudly.
"The gods have chosen me as your leader!" Narmer continued. "I will bring these Two Lands to prosperity! I will defend our River from invaders! And I will bring the might of the gods upon our enemies!"
The crowd exploded in cheers, no one really throwing insults anymore, as they know that they will get killed if they did.
"Again with the word god..." Sersi murmured.
"Have a problem using your title?" I teased.
"No..." she shook her head lightly as we both walked through the crowds to leave the place. "It's just… I have a bad feeling about it..."
"You're right if you have a bad feeling about it." I nodded. "A man shouldn't have that much power, and the title 'God-King' is basically the highest power any man could wield against a group of people..."
She frowned. "What do you mean?"
"He's the leader, and a god." I said. "If these people just went along with it, the king basically held total control of the country, anything he said became absolute, if the king told you to live, you'll live, if the king told you to die… then the rest of the people will follow the words, and kill you."
"But it'll be fine… right?"
"Power corrupts Sersi." I stated. "And absolute power corrupts absolutely."
"But we… we have power… but how come we're not corrupted?"
"We're not humans." I said. "We're eternals."
She seemed to take that as an answer, and after that, we walked out of the crowd, intending to go back to the Domo.
[Back in the Domo]
Me and Sersi just got back, and now, we are gathering at our usual meeting spot, and we're discussing something.
"He's calling himself 'God-King' now." Sersi informed. "If he somehow uses that title to do something horrible..."
"We can't interfere, Sersi." Ikaris said. "Our work is finished here, we need to leave and move on."
"We can't just leave them if the king is corrupt!" Sersi shouted, making the others surprised. Sersi realized this and apologized.
"Boss is right, Sersi," said Kingo. "We can't interfere… it's the humans' business."
"Isn't it our mission to protect these humans?" she questioned.
"We protect them from deviants, not from themselves." said Ikaris.
Sersi then turned to Ajak with a pleading look, and Ajak sighed. "Like I said before Sersi, you're too attached."
"Please Ajak..."
"If we stay, we can't do anything about it… we can't interfere… it's a useless endeavour."
Sersi clenched her fist and murmured. "Fine..."
"What?"
"It's fine… I'll stay… I won't interfere… I'll just observe and watch."
"You can't be serious, Sersi..." Ikaris said weakly. "You're wasting our time here."
"You don't have to stay, I will stay here for a couple hundred years, while you can go to the next place."
"Are you sure?" Ajak questioned.
"I'm sure..." she nodded.
"Then okay… but you need to have someone with you."
"I'll be with her." said Ikaris hurriedly.
"No Ikaris, you're going with us." said Ajak. "We need you for scouting."
"You have Pluto for that." protested Ikaris.
"His power is a bit… flashy..." said Ajak. "You can fly among the clouds, we now can't really show ourselves too much, so we need to be hidden."
"But Ajak-"
"It's final Ikaris," said Ajak in a motherly way. "How about Pluto will stay here, and the rest of us will go to the next location."
"Me?"
"Him?" questioned Sersi.
"Yes, him." Ajak said.
Sersi sighed. "Fine..."
"No no no no, I didn't agree with this." I protested.
"If you follow us, you'll just bring trouble, Pluto..." Ajak said. "We need to be careful on first contact, and you're not exactly the type to be good at that..."
I sighed. Fuck me… "Fine."
Ajak nodded. "Then it's settled, we're going to the next location, and you two will stay here for a while as per Sersi's request."
All of them nodded, albeit reluctantly, after that, we separated, with the main group crossing the Mediterranean, and me and Sersi staying in Egypt for a little while...
[Abydos, 3000 BCE]
It's been quite a few years, and I was stuck with Sersi, 'observing' the development of Ancient Egypt, and it was not fine…
I had to deal with a disappointed Sersi.
Why is she disappointed? Well… Narmer became a bit corrupted, he's not like a dictator or anything, but in his reign, he further solidifies the position of a 'God-King', he commanded his subjects to build the image of the king as the embodiment of a divine being on earth, which in itself sounds like a normal idea as the royal family will have control over the subjects, but they are human, and sometimes… humans have dumb ideas…
Even though he was a bit off in the head, Narmer brought peace and prosperity to the Two Lands, he defended invasions from the south and the north, and the tension between the Upper Egypt culture and Lower Egypt culture lessened as time went by.
The next king is Hor-Aha… he's a bit normal unlike Narmer, he focused on the development of craftsmanship in the Two lands, skyrocketing the skill of his people in terms of that kind of thing. Hor-Aha also led a counter invasion towards the Nubians, much to Sersi's ire… She doesn't like conflict at all if it isn't obvious by now.
Before he died, he issued a decree that would echo throughout the entire first dynasty… he ordered 36 retainers to be buried with him. Men, women, dogs, and even dwarfs were also killed and buried alongside Hor-Aha, which made Sersi really disappointed, as he liked the king while he reigned.
After that, Hor-Aha was succeeded by Djer, and Djer was no good king.
Firstly, he invaded the region of Sinai, who had no qualms with the Two lands whatsoever unlike the Nubians, which made Sersi really mad.
Secondly, he was obsessed with death. He often dissected his slaves alive, intrigued by the human body. He studied human anatomy in his free time, even making an essay about it.
And now, we're gathering in Djer's burial in Abydos, and me and Sersi was standing in front, seeing what could Sersi described as 'madness'.
There were almost 318 slaves standing in rows in front of his tomb, and one by one, a priest will stab their hearts, and threw their bodies to the tomb, willing or unwilling alike.
"What have we done?" Sersi murmured.
"Nothing." I said. "It's all the humans' fault."
"Still, if we haven't-"
"Haven't what? Mingle with them? They will still find a way to… do these kinds of things."
We then saw that Djer's first wife, along with her riches, was slowly brought inside of the tomb, the wife looked at least willing… so there's that.
"Let's leave…" Sersi murmured. "We can't do anything here anyway."
"Caught on have you?" I smirked. "You finally snap out of it?"
"You don't have to tell me twice, Pluto. I know it was a mistake to stay." she said.
I sighed. "We'll leave tomorrow morning." I said as I left her to herself, as she still stayed to watch the burial ceremony for some reason…
I feel pity for her, she's too attached, as time goes on, it'll be much worse…
[Alexandria, 3000 BCE]
I'm now at modern day Alexandria, right now it's still empty though as it hasn't been founded yet. I'm waiting for Sersi to gather her belongings, and she said she wanted to walk around the land for the last time before we flew to Greece. So I waited for her.
After a couple of days of waiting, she finally arrived at Alexandria with a tired expression, not tired physically, but mentally.
"Ready to go back to the others?" I questioned.
She just hummed at my words. I snapped my fingers, and two of my winged deviants appeared before us. I hopped on one, while Sersi on the other, and we both took off to the north, where the rest of our 'family' is.
[Aegean Sea, A couple of hours later]
We were flying above the Aegean sea as we approached Greece. It was quiet, me and Sersi didn't talk at all, probably she still finds it hard to believe that humans are not as innocent as she might think.
She's in deep frown the whole time, I finally sighed, and spoke to her. "Don't be discouraged…"
She looked at me, confused at my words, so I continued. "Even though humans are easily corrupted by power, some have the ability to resist the corruption as well… not all of humanity is like Djer, you can't stigmatize them."
She hummed. "True… but it's hard to think that a single man can cause so much suffering."
"It's always been like that." I said. "The strong rules over the weak, and the strong can do anything to them."
"It's a brutal world we live in."
I chuckled. "Don't be too disappointed in them… or you'll be more disappointed in the future."
"There's no way of ending it huh…"
I smiled at her. "Don't think about it, we're Eternals, our job is to watch, not to interfere… although that's still bullshit in my opinion."
She chuckled at my words, but then, from the sea, a deviant suddenly launched itself at us, appearing from under the water.
"What the hell man!" I shouted as we dodged the deviant's attack. I looked at the deviant, and saw that it was a new type of variant, it's a mix between a shark, a crab, and it has wings as well, which was really strange.
"It's one of them…" I murmured.
"One of what?!" Sersi questioned, almost thrown off.
"The one that can absorb animals!" I shouted as I summoned Ghidorah 2.0(Ghidorah 1.0, Ghidorah 1.0, Ghidorah 1.0), I hopped on its barely corporeal back, and commanded it to attack the deviant.
Ghidorah hovered in the air for a moment, its ability was to absorb the surrounding cosmic energy, making it cloudy and dark. And from that cosmic energy, it can shoot cosmic beams from its mouth, and it did just that.
It charged up the beam, and the three heads aimed it at the deviant, who was now flying towards me.
The golden beam then lit up the sky, as if lightning repeatedly struck on the same place.
But the deviant was so fast that it dodged it.
So I resorted to a more… close up method.
I jumped from Ghidorah, and successfully, albeit barely, landed on the back of that deviant's back.
"What are you doing!?" I heard Sersi shout from afar, but I paid no heed. The deviant was struggling to make me fall off, and I quickly used my newly made weapon.
Introducing the Vibranium Bident that Phastos made for me, it can transform into a bracelet, so it's quite hidden.
Aside from melee attacks, Phastos also added some shit.
It can absorb a construct of mine, and turn it into a cosmic energy beam, so it's quite cool.
I transformed the bident from its previous bracelet form, and I stabbed it to the deviant's back.
Yet it still lives…
"Fucking deviant…" I murmured. I then summoned a small rat construct, and it was absorbed into the bident. The space between the two spear tips suddenly glowed golden, and a small but precise golden beam appeared from the top of my bident, I aimed it so that it cuts the deviant's body in half, and it did just that.
The deviant was dead for sure this time. And I'm falling quickly to the sea. I quickly absorbed the deviant, and Ghidorah caught me before I fell off to the sea, which made Sersi sighed in relief.
"That was stupid!" Sersi apprehended me as we stabilized.
"Stupid… but fun…" I chuckled as I lay on the back of Ghidorah. "Damn… I want to do that again."
Sersi just shook her head in amusement, and finally, we saw land in front of us, it was of course, Greece.
