Bab 46: Sara - Adjustments

Sara held Mary on her hip. The small girl had grown tired of all the walking they had done from the fabric store to the butcher. It had been long day, and Mary hadn’t had her nap yet. Roy had dropped her off to get some fabric for new clothes for Mary and proceeded to the feed store.

Child on one hip. Package of fabric under the other arm. She paused at the street corner to wait for a truck to pass by. The fall chill was fought off only by the bright sun above. Mary was nearly one and very active. The small child nestled her dark curls against her mother’s neck as she fought off sleep. It all took a toll on Sara.

She was very tired. Only the month before did she tell her husband she was expecting again. She had hoped she was wrong. Handling another child seemed impossible to her. They were already struggling each day in the one small room Edith had given them to occupy on the second floor. Granted, it was bigger than the pantry, but with another child it would feel as small.
