Bab 30: Jeannie - Another Perspective

The small diner was only a couple of miles from the nursing home. Erick had picked me up around eleven-thirty. Last night, he had texted back that he would love to have lunch with me. I stressed that I only wanted it to be us. I knew that if he mentioned to Leslie that she’d force her way to join us which meant no truthful conversation.

Our orders placed and the drinks delivered, we both settled back against our vinyl seats that seen a lot of use over the years. I remember coming here a few times when I was younger, about twenty years younger.

“How’s Mom?”

“Okay. You could come by to see her when you drop me off.”

“How is John?”

Asking about my husband was not as slick as he thought. I knew very well that he didn’t want to come by. I just didn’t understand fully why.

“Nice try, Eri\ck. Why won’t you come see Mom?”
