Percival had already entered the field after the short conversation was over. I didn't have much hope for any of them since this was far beyond their current level of power. Even most of the sixth years would struggle to beat one beast on the fifth level let alone three.
I really couldn't help but think about how far I had come from a little baby who had nothing but a desire for revenge with no way of enacting it to a young man who now had the power to make dragons kneel. It was astonishing growth. But I also knew that I by myself wasn't enough to accomplish my goals. I would need helpers.
This was something Drak, Achlys and I had been discussing very seriously over the course of these past couple of weeks. I had already started cultivating Hermione, she was the perfect candidate to be a part of my team. I then looked at Percival, Jenna, Robert, Fred, Abby, even john and I couldn't help but think that these people were rather genuine.
I was still not 100% sure, but through my limited probing with Legilimency over the course of the day, I had figured out what kind of people they were to a decent degree. And I was rather satisfied with the results.
So, I was thinking of cultivating them into useful assistants in the war that was looming in the not so distant future. The only one I couldn't get through to was Fred. Even with my rather strong level of legilimency, I was not able to penetrate his mind. Achlys and even Drak spoke up about wanting to do it themselves. but I refused. I would rather uncover it myself.
Otherwise, what fun would there be if I knew everything?
I had plans beginning to form on the direction in which all of them would train. As I thought deeper on this subject, I suddenly noticed that Percival was walking back with an injured leg. It was bleeding rather profusely.
A flash of green light shot out of my eye and landed on his body which instantly began to heal at an incredible rate. In less than 10 seconds, he was back to normal. Percival gave a simple nod which was enough for me to understand what he meant.
Fred didn't say anything and walked into the field, yet he also exited in less than two minutes with grievous injuries. But he didn't make a noise, as if the pain was nothing. I healed him as well. With this, everyone had reached their limit besides me.
"Well, Tom, seems it's only you now man. Good luck." Percival said with a smile as he slapped my back. Everyone nodded with a smile on their faces.
As we headed up to the next floor, we saw Randal by the stairs with a grin on his face.
I knew that this probably had something to do with the test.
"Professor, a surprise to see you here. What can we do for you?" I asked when I saw him blocking the stairs.
Randal seemed hesitant to speak in front of everyone, but I didn't mind.
"don't worry, it's not really a secret anyway."
The professor didn't seem to mind, it was most likely out of respect for my decision since they wouldn't really care.
"The headmistress is rather surprised by the ease with which you escalated the tower. She has decided on the test. If you can beat 10 seventh level beasts and the only eighth level beast, you will pass." He stated.
Instantly the group gasped.
Jenna stepped forward instantly.
"Sir! There's an eighth level?!" she said half shouting.
Randal smiled, "that is right, there is indeed an eighth level, but no student has even made it past the seventh so there was no reason to reveal information about the next level. but since Thomas here seems to be talented enough, the headmistress has deemed it necessary to inform you. Do you accept?" he asked while turning in my direction.
"Oh! and remember, failure to comply means immediate expulsion." He said with a seemingly harmless smile. I could only sigh again, I must have made him incur some kind of loss for him to smile like that.
"Why the hell would you bother asking then?" I said with slight irritation.
Randal didn't seem to mind, "a simple formality that's all. I look forward to your performance." He said before dissaparating.
Everyone turned to me in horror.
Percival grabbed my shoulder and smiled in exasperation, his lips twitching continuously.
"Can you be so kind as to explain?"
Everyone nodded at his words.
I couldn't help but smile awkwardly looking at their incredibly curious expressions.
"I made a deal with the headmistress…"
I went on to explain everything, naturally, I didn't mention that I was a pendragon, but I did mention that I needed something from her.
Everyone's jaws dropped.
"Tom, you're crazy you know that. There has been nobody who can clear the seventh level. and no one has heard of the eighth for a good reason. I couldn't even begin to imagine what sort of monster lives up there."
I couldn't help but smile slightly as my hands began to shake from the excitement. I was originally only slightly looking forward to the seventh floor. But to think there was another with a beast so terrifying it had a floor to itself.
"If that's the case, then there's no reason for me to play around is there? I was initially thinking of taking it slow. But I really want to know what's on the eighth floor. Let's get going." I said with a wide smile and walked up the stairs with brisk steps. Everyone else looked at me and sighed while shaking their head.
"What?" I asked, pausing my ascent.
"Nothing…" they all said at the same time and sighed again. I didn't really understand what they were sighing about, but I wasn't really in the mood to figure it out. I resumed my walk and reached the sixth floor. 'Let's see how long it takes to make my way through it.'
