I knew how important self-defence was to Karen and I also knew that she wouldn't stop requesting it until she got a teacher, therefore I sent for a known hunter friend of mine, Gavin Oswald, to come and train Karen. Karen's enemies were not human beings like her, they were vampires, werewolves and witches, creatures that could do impossible things. Normal self-defence wouldn't help her. Although every fibre of my body said this was a bad Idea, Karen needed to know how to defend herself.

Gavin arrived the next morning. I snuck out of bed to receive him. I did not have any issues with hunters. The hunter community agreed that Giles and John Hunter had gone too far. They had managed to distance themselves from Hunter's actions.
