Bab 9: IX
The Queen's maid passed out from the injury she got when she was running to her master's chamber to tell her she saw a man in the Princess' room and have the guards search the room for the man.
Or send a message to the princess' fiancé to let him know the reason why the princess kept postponing her wedding in the name of mourning her parents death for two decades.
She was found out by the other maidservants of the queen and immediately rushed to the servants' quarters where was taken care of by her fellow maidservants and when she was well enough to explain what she had witnessed and persuade the Queen, it was already dawn of a new day.
As she narrated what she had witnessed to the King and Queen together since that was what the Queen wanted so the King will hear what the servant had to say about his precious niece.
"Do you know that if what you have just narrated is wrong, you will get hung at the north gate of the city for insulting the Royal princess?" the Queen asked as though she did not believe what the maid was saying.
"I know. I heard a man ask from inside asking about what was happening when I was talking to Helen, the princess' maid," the maid narrated but it seems no one was buying her story because she did not say she saw the man with her own eyes.
She glanced at the Queen who sent her a secret signal by slightly nodding her head. She fell on her knees and bowed her head to the floor.
"I also saw the man. He was no wearing much. That was when Helen pushed me to the floor when I wanted to help thinking the princess was in danger. I saw a man with the Princess at night," she decided to create a more believable story for them.
"I am sorry to intrude at this hour, Your majesty but what does she mean by the princess was with a man last night? A man who isn't me?" a young man asked as he walked towards Aurora's uncle and bowed his head.
"What brings you here, Duke Evans?" the king had to ask the august visitor in his throne room.
"I came here to celebrate Princess Aurora's birthday. I could not make it yesterday because of a delay I encountered on the way here," the Duke replied looking around for Aurora but she not in the throne room.
"You have travelled far," the king said with a smile. He was aware that the Duke was on his way to the palace. He was the reason behind the delay he faced but from the Intel he got, the Duke was coming to claim his wife not celebrate his wife's birthday. Yesterday, the princess turned twenty-five and it marked the end of her so called two-decade mourning period.
"Yes, where is the princess. I wanted to visit her chamber but I felt that it is right that I come here first," the duke looked around longing to see Aurora's beautiful green eyes and her long golden hair that always looked a flowing sea of gold.
The king turned to his page and signaled to him to call Aurora over although more than anyone in the large throne this morning, he knew that Aurora was long gone. "I have sent someone to call her," the king told the duke with a natural smile on her lips.
He could not imagine how someone could be so attached to someone who clearly did not like him despite how hard she tried to let him know where her heart lies and avoid him.
"I brought so many gifts for her. Our wedding is only months away," Duke continued happily. The Duke was slim and tall. He was loved by a lot of woman in the kingdom.
He was a very wealthy merchant and he spent the early part of his youth waiting for Aurora not knowing that there was no way they will end up together.
"Your majesty, the princess Aurora and her maid are nowhere to be found," the page boy returned with just the information the king wanted to hear. If he heard otherwise, then he would have been very surprised and confused.
"What do you mean?" The king asked surprised. He hit his hand on the armrest of his throne and stood up. "Find her. Search the palace," he ordered feigning anger.
"Perhaps she ran away with her lover and her maid when she knew you were coming to plan your wedding. What a spoilt brat," the Queen commented on the side very happy about what was happening.
If the princess gets caught as a runaway bride, she will be immediately handed over to the family of her husband to be to get punished by their family rules if the husband still wants her and if not, she will be given off to marry someone that is really below her status. The Queen smiled unable to contain the joy she felt due to the turn of event.
At this point, with Aurora's fiancé present, the king will not be able to defend the Princess and it will be her greatest joy to see the almighty and pampered Aurora humiliated till she might not be able to take it anymore and kill herself.
She was fed up seeing Aurora act so powerful like no harm could come to her. She tried to kill her multiple times but it seems the king was aware and always saved Aurora because none of her plans worked.
It seems she was not the only targeting the princess because someone tried to kill the princess through the dinner she prepared for her.
It was hard to proof her innocence because she will not be foolish to kill the princess in her own chamber in the presence of so many witnesses.
Her husband only left her to remain Queen because of the power her family had as a family of generals who have fought so many battles with the king and they were protecting the border of his kingdom.
"Woman, you should return to your palace," the king suddenly ordered clearly annoyed.
She shut her mouth as she walked away despite how much she wanted to remain and defend herself but she knew very well that there will be no way of escape if she openly disobeys the kings order.
