But the Young Man just snorted, "Hmph! You're no match for I, Chen Hong, the successor of the wielder of flames Cheng Qiang, and Rank 5 Gu Master!"
Chen Hong clapped his hands together and pulled them apart, creating a sword of pure fire in between his hands.
"I haven't exercised in a while so this will be good," Chen Hong cracked his neck, "Don't worry miss, I will execute this foul beast."
Jue Ru was at first worried for Chen Hong but after sensing his Rank 5 aura she was relieved, but upon hearing him say, execute and fowl beast, she instantly panicked.
"Wait don't ki…"
But it was too late, the Rank 3 Wei Ling was only a Rank 3 after all, and she had lived a sedentary lifestyle, with everything handed to her, even her own cultivation, how could she possible compare to the battle-hardened self-made Rank 5 Chen Hong?
In just 1 swing, Wei Ling soon began to see her world flip upside down, literally!
Her head was sent rolling off her body, with her last thoughts being, "I-impossible…not like this…my vengeance…"
*boom*
Her dying thoughts ended with her lifeless body crashing down.
Jue Ru witnessed everything in slow motion, her face contorted, revealing the look of a deranged person.
"Phew, that was easy." Chen Hong said as he jumped out of the hole, dusting himself, "Are you, alright mam? You look like death."
"..."
Jue Ru stared blankly at the now headless body of her mistress, Chen Hong continued yapping away at how 'amazing' he was but Jue Ru only heard empty air as her head spun with all the wild problems that would occur.
"AHHHHH," Jue Ru could not hold back her torment any longer and had to vent, startling Chen Hong.
After scanning quickly and finding that there were no enemies nearby, he thought to himself: "Ohhh she must not be used to seeing death, even if it was a monster, it was still an intelligent living being, it must be traumatizing for her."
Chen Hong walked forth to console her, "There there, it's ok now, the monster is gone I will keep you safe."
It was upon hearing the word 'safe' that Jue Ru freaked out and had a mental breakdown,
"Safe? SAFE?! Do you have any idea what you've just done!?"
Chen Hong was puzzled, "Errr save your life?"
Jue Ru sarcastically replied, "Yeah, by throwing me out of the frying pan and into the fire! DO you have any idea who that was?"
Jue Ru had twitching eyes and a fierce expression, though it did not detract from her beauty but gave a unique new flavour.
"Man she's hot even when I'm getting scolded," Chen Hong thought to himself, but even he wasn't dumb enough to say that out loud.
Chen Hong scratched his head, "Err that beast was a someone? And by the sound of it someone important? But if that were true why was she halfway to a Beast, and a strong one at that."
While it might have looked easy, Chen Hong knew it was anything but, the moment his blade of fire came into contact with Wei Ling's neck, he encountered tremendous resistance.
Especially for a Rank 3!
"That swing was almost a 50% powered attack of mine, for a Rank 3 to reach that level…I'm afraid if she had truly morphed no Rank 4 would be her match and even I may face some difficulty…" Chen Hong explained.
"This…" Jue Ru was stunned, "Still you couldn't have bound her or knocked her unconscious?"
Chen Hong shook his head, "I have no binding Gu or Killer Moves. I cultivate Fire Path and focus solely on its fighting capabilities, I have no time to train restrain skills, we're still in the middle of an intense war."
Hearing about the war piqued Jue Ru's interest, "You're one of the soldiers in Primordial Origin's Human army?"
Chen Hong revealed a smug smile, "Try captain." Chen Hong said as he pulled out his Captain badge.
It was a simple and plain looking badge, made mostly of iron, but with 3 stripes on it, each stripe made of different material, first copper then bronze and the biggest line, silver.
Jue Ru's eyes were dazzled, a Captain in the Army of Primordial Origin!
The town that the Wei Clan, now sect, occupied was once the frontlines of the Human campaign, but in recent times the frontlines have kept pushing back Variants and recovered more and more lands for Humanity, as well as, freeing up millions of their fellow brethren.
Climbing in Primordial Origin's Human Army requires 2 things, Strength and Talent.
One's background was not important.
In a war, soldiers need to be strong, but commanders need to be that and more.
They needed to be teachable, have grown, and be able to lead their mand down a path they otherwise would not go.
Thus, the role that was in charge of people meant that the higher up thought well of them.
"Even Master Wei is only a Head Captain," Jue Ru recalled seeing the 4th stripe made of Gold on the Master's badge.
But this was nothing special as Master Wei was already an Immortal, in fact, he received that promotion after his ascension.
After all, even if he didn't join the Human Army, news of a new Human Immortal was always worth celebrating, and Primordial made it such that any Gu Immortal could be an honourary Head Captain.
Though it bore no real power as they were not assigned a Platoon to lead, in contrast, Chen Hong was actually given a squad to control!...was.
"Erhm," Jue Ru asked: "Where's your squad?"
It was upon hearing this that chirpy Chen Hong seemed to turn sombre.
"..."
Sensing that she had struck a sore point, Jue Ru tried to cover up her blunder, "My mistake, I'm sure it's classified."
Chen Hong looked at her eyes, and she at his.
He took a deep breath, "They're dead, and I killed them ."
~
Everything faded, as whiteness fielded all that could be seen.
"How interesting…" a handsome man was seen floating in the white space, seemingly in thought.
"I sensed that fabled Demon Path lurking inside that Dream but didn't gain any attainment in it," the man stroked his beard, "But I did manage to raise my Human Path attainment, and gained Fire Path as an added bonus!"
The man was none other than Giant Sun Immortal Venerable!
He had been the one piloting Chen Hong in the Dream earlier, though he was merely a spectator for most of the scene until his fateful awakening.
"With this my Human Path has reached Quasi-Greatgrandmaster!"
Indeed, throughout this entire period, Giant Sun's various Luck Path defensive moves had been attracting the Luck of Heaven and Earth to its user, since the owner of these Dream Realms can be traced back to Heaven and the Heavenly Dao.
Thus, Giant Sun was able to continuously siphon Luck from them, while also increasing his own attainment levels!
"I can now feel the Dao of Karma more strongly!" Giant Sun held his fist tightly.
He then thought back to the previous Dream, "Hmm, to run into this Chen Hong kid again…how peculiar and this time he seemed to carry great providence of Humanity on him…how interesting."
Giant Sun began to deduce, "He should be someone famous in history, someone from Humanity's early days, a person that either accomplished or pioneered something, from his history, I'm suspecting that he accomplished something great, maybe advancing Fire Path? But that doesn't add up since the Pioneer of Fire Path was Huo Tao, the ruler of flames, and she came about much later than this Chen Hong."
Giant Sun could not figure out Chen Hong's real identity before the next Dream began, "Oh well, it is up to luck if this mystery will ever be solved.
With that, he dove headfirst, as the next Dream's world began to materialize around him.
Meanwhile, in an alternate white void.
A handsome youth, in all white robes, could be seen coughing.
"*COugh* *Cough*" he wiped his sleeves to reveal blood on them.
"Hmm? To think my injuries were so severe that I would actually cough up blood in a Dream! This means that the damage, while not physical, was strong enough to make me visualize blood coming out." the young man sighed, "Competing against 1 or 2 people is fine but against a 100?"
The young man shook his head, revealing dazzling jet black hair and eyes that contained infiniteness and ambition.
Who else would it be but Fang Yuan?
Fang Yuan shook his head, "To think that one day, I would be reduced to such a state, one must truly never become complacent in life."
Indeed, being in the Dream Realms, Fang Yuan had plenty of gains but he also faced some losses, since the Dream Realms were getting smaller and thinner, the number of people per Dream had gone up.
It's just that Giant Sun's Luck had been steering them away, though even he would start encountering people soon…
"The competition is getting fiercer, despite having better methods, I still find it hard competing with 10, 20 people let alone a 100!"
Fang Yuan was somewhat unlucky in that Dream, he had run into the Dream of the pioneer of Lightning Path, Dian Er.
"That Dream would have easily raised my Lightning Path to Greatgrand or even Quasi-Supreme Grandmaster!"
Indeed, of all the elements in his Dao of Elements, Lighting Path was one of the areas he was lacking in the most.
Having only reached Quasi-Great Grandmaster, and holding only an average amount of Lightning Path Immortal Gu.
Dian Er's Dream would have been the perfect springboard for him to grow his Lightning Path but…
"The competition and requirements were much too steep and besides…" Fang Yuan held something in his hand and smirked, "This is not a bad consolidation prize."
In Fang Yuan's hands was material that alternated between every colour of the rainbow, then white and black, and then all at once.
It had no definite shape, mass, or size and would seemingly keep distorting in and out of reality.
"To think I would actually find some 7 Layer Meng Cloud."
This special Cloud was something incredibly unique.
It was an Immortal Dream Path Material!
