At Wu Clan in the Southern Border
"Lord Wu Yong why are we sending Fang Yuan another Medium Grade Blessed Land? Can't we just keep The Peaceful Soil Heavy Mountain Fortress?"
The Wu Clan elders were currently in a meeting deciding on what forces to send. They had made many enemies in the Southern Border and thus, could not be careless.
The various immortals bickered amongst themselves on who should and shouldn't go.
Finally, Wu Yong put his foot down: "Enough!"
The hall went silent, Wu Yong had not been slacking in his cultivation amongst Rank 8s he was certainly one of the more outstanding ones.
"I have decided Wu Dang Zhi, Wu Fa and I shall go, and we will be taking Clear Jade Dripping Wind Tiny Bamboo Building, Peaceful Soil Heavy Mountain Fortress, and Return Wind Pavilion."
Return Wind Pavilion was one of Wu Clans' 4 Gu houses. It might be nothing special for a Rank 7 Gu house but it had the unique ability to redirect attacks back at their sender.
Though the attacks would be largely affected by the Wind Path Methods it employed, meaning that the attack returned would be at half-strength, but it made the moves that were returned into pseudo-compound moves as these moves would also be imbued with Killer Move ------- Blow Wind Blow.
As Gu Immortals would become cocky at defending against their own moves, they would neglect the Wind Path Killer Move and suffer some damage.
One of the supreme elders, Wu Tong Shi, stood up: "Lord Wu Yong, taking Clear Jade Dripping Wind Tiny Bamboo Building I can understand as it is your private Gu house but taking both Return Wind and Peaceful Soil Mountain I cannot agree, never mind how will guard us during your leave but who will guard is the event that you perish with those Gu Houses not only would we be out of resources but we will also incur the wrath of Fang Yuan!"
The other elders nodded at Wu Tong Shi and agreed with his analysis, after all, he was the Wu clan's top Wisdom Path expert.
Wu Yong didn't get angry: "I understand Elder Wu Tong's objection but let me ask you all, do you think that with just me, Dang Zhi and, Wu Fa we will be able to fight for even resources?"
The rest of the Wu clan elder's faces grew grim.
This question did plague their minds, with a stage this grand was their strongest even qualified to participate, never mind that Wu Yong was only on the high tier of Rank 8s but Wu Dang Zhi and Wu Fa were only Rank 7s!
In a battlefield where even Pseudo-venerables were nothing but cannon fodder would the Wu clan even stand a chance?
The mood in the Wu clan was bleak until Wu Yong laughed loudly: "HA HA HA, look at you all! Just a bunch of cowards! How will the Wu clan survive this Great Era with you lot leading! It is one thing to be physically weak but to mentally weak as well…Shame!"
Wu Yong's words were like daggers plunging into the hearts of all the elders.
Indeed, they were ashamed to call themselves elders, after only a few thousand years of peace they have gotten complacent and no longer had the same drive and ambition their forefathers once did.
All of them were downtrodden and had their heads downcast.
Wu Yong shook his head: "*Sigh* it's not your fault, the years of peace and have made me grow complacent as well, I once wanted to solely pursue my own glory, and I thought I had achieved that when across the Southern Border who didn't know or fear my Wu clan but my first wake up call came during the Fate Wars."
"Back then we were mere pawns from the beginning, rallied under a phony king. But now that King has become a player and what about us? We've been pushed into a game where we're no longer even just a pawn, we're just sheep waiting to be slaughtered once our usefulness runs out."
"We might not even be used for our resource but merely as an example to the rest of the world, hung like a glorified trophy!" Wu Yong's hands were clutched so hard that blood began to drip.
"But I Wu Yong refuse! Do they want to use me? Fatten me up like calf to be slaughtered? So be it because I will use them to strengthen myself! For Wu Clan!" He raised his fist up high in the air eliciting tears amongst the Elders.
"To think that Lord Wu Yong has always been thinking about the clan."
"Truly a noble and righteous man if not for him we would be blinded by complacency"

The chanting and the fervor were exactly what Wu Yong wanted now he dropped the final act of his plan.
"Are you all willing to fight for Wu Clan!"
"YES!"
"Are you all willing to support me!"
"YES!!"
"Then I am prepared to do something that you may find incredibly reckless and drastic, not only do I want to give Fang Yuan one more middle-classed resource point I want to give him 3!"
Hearing Wu Yong's words the crowd sobered up to some degree.
While some wanted to support him, others wanted him to reduce the amount they were using.
One Elder asked: "Lord Wu Yong what do you possibly want to buy from Lord Fang Yuan for 3 Resource Points?"
"Excellent question Wu Bai, naturally for the price of 3 Resource Points I want 3 things, number one would obviously be to extend the duration of our rental of Peaceful Soil Heavy Mountain Fortress."
The Elders present nodded in agreement. Their force could be considered one of the weakest entering this competition they severely needed some form of defense.
"Secondly, I want Fang Yuan to send over a Pseudo-venerable to keep Wu Clan safe during our absence."
"Even now he is still thinking about the clan," the Elders have moved to tears once again.
"Finally, I want Fang Yuan to raise Return Wind Pavilion to Rank 8!"
It was this point that truly made the Elders excited: "As expected of our leader he had plans to raise Return Wind Pavilion to take part in this showdown between regions!"
While almost all the Elders present were over the moon with joy there was still one voice of reason.
"Hang on," Wu Tong Shi quickly raised his hands: "Lord Wu Yong I am glad you care so much about the clan and its future but if your objective is to merely win resources in the Grotto Heaven I can't imagine how 3 Resource Points as an investment justify the cost, never mind that upgrading Return Wind to Rank 8 is good but hiring someone from Fang Yuan seems wasteful."
Some Elders scoffed at Wu Tong Shi: "Are you questioning Lord Wu Yong's intentions? This is a Venerable's Grotto Heaven the resources within must be astronomical and sending someone is for our clan's protection."
Wu Tong Shi cut them off: "Okay, maybe I can accept that but why do we need to send our top 3 to go gather resources, does it not seem wasteful since they will be relying on Gu Houses? Why add 1 more Resource point to Fang Yuan? And can any amount of Gu Material rival 3 Mid-sized Resource Point?"
This time Wu Tong Shi's reality check proved effective as the Gu Immortals present began to contemplate the cost-benefit ratio.
3 Resource Points were a lot!
They made not just a clan's income but also a clan's luck!
Owning Resource Points was akin to grafting the luck of Heaven and Earth onto a clan.
To surrender 3 for a chance at obtaining Resources, even if they were rare and extraordinary seemed a bit too wasteful.
Wu Yong nodded: "Indeed if all we were going for was Resources then it would be incredibly wasteful but how can mere resources allow our Wu Clan to survive, is Resources something we are so desperately lacking in?"
It's true after a few thousand years of being one of the strongest forces in the Southern Border they had quite a bit of resource stockpiled in their warehouse.
"No, the true reason we are doing all this is twofold. Firstly, it will allow the rest of the Southern Border to view us in strong light, it would act as a deterrent of sorts and an invite to talented Gu masters and Gu immortals."
"Secondly, it is to build a stronger connection to Fang Yuan! By doing this we are implying to the other clans that Fang Yuan is somewhat a backer of us without having to actually submit to him. This is the true reason I am willing to put so much effort in."
Even Wu Tong Shi could not find fault with that as what was more important than getting stronger? Surviving!
So, what if they kept a bunch of resource points could they really stay ahead of the rest of the Southern Border?

The elders kept chanting and they soon began discussing what Resource point they were going to send over.
But little did they know that Wu Yong was harboring a grand plan in his mind.
Gain the secret of becoming a Venerable!
The discussion of resources and building relations with Fang Yuan was not a total lie but it was covering his true objective, finding an answer to achieving Venerable cultivation!
Wu Yong was an ambitious person who could never be satisfied, although the myriad life forms crave eternal life, Wu Yong wanted fame and glory.
"The mirage of eternal life is not my pursuit, longevity without accomplishments is no less than shameful." Wu Yong said to himself. [1]
In this regard, he was very similar to Reckless Savage Demon Venerable. So, what if one lives a long life? If in that time they lived and achieved nothing than for, what are they living for?
In the Western Desert
Before Fang Clan took off for the Northern Plains, they used their newfound might to terrorize the continent and loot even more clans.
And most of these clans just looked on!
What could they do? Fang Clan had in their possession 3 Rank 8 Gu Houses not to mention 2 of them were from Fang Yuan himself!
Dragon Palace could enslave people through the use of Dream Path and Myriad Year Flying Warship could be considered the strongest offensive Gu House.
Of course, Fang Clan did not go on a wanton massacre and looting spree, they took only 1 Resource point from Mid-Sized clans and 2 from Large Clans.
Naturally, these Resource Points were quickly traded away to Fang Yuan for Contribution points that not only allowed them to extend their rental duration but to also refine a few more Gu.
Raising their strength by another level.
In terms of pure strength, Fang Clan could be considered Mid to High tier but with these Gu Houses, they could be considered in the High to Peak tier!
All this was also good Marketing for Fang Yuan.
Word got out of his Gu House rental business and many people made enquiries so that they could gain extra strength without the effort.
Fang Yuan would naturally be happy to supply demand, except he gave an excuse that he was out of Gu Houses at the moment and would need everyone to enter a waiting list.
Of course, Fang Yuan could construct decent Gu Houses as easily as drinking water but why would he raise the strength of his enemies?
Right now, the 5 regions are competing with one another for supremacy, and Fang Yuan had a major advantage!
3 out of the 5 Regions were sending people that supported him. Naturally, Wu clan was not entirely on his side, but they were completely not inclined towards the other Venerables.
Currently, the situation was as such:
Giant Sun had the Northern Plain's Huang Jin Tribes
Star Constellation had the Central Continent's Ten Great Ancient Sects
Fang Yuan had the Western Desert's Fang Clan, The Eastern Sea's Great Love Alliance, and The Southern Boarder's Wu Clan.
Spectral Soul was the most pitiful as he only had himself!

zulbucks Whew! This chapter was quite fun to right I always so Wu Yong as a crafty person who knows how to be a charismatic leader!
Also, Wu Clan and the others are soooooooo Weak they got hard Power crept. When researching to find members to send I found how pitiful the rest of the Gu world seems. Rank8s was truly a rare commodity that FY just kills on a regular basis.
Of course, across the whole Southern Border there would be quite a number of Rank 8s but why would FY want people that aren't useful to him?
Anyway, I cant wait to share with you all how the rest of the story goes.
