Bab 179: Star Plain Province

The Bloody Totem Tribe held close to 50 million members. Whilst this was 'larger' than the nearby Rising Sun Tribe, the Rising Sun Tribe members had a greater average strength, after all, they were of the Aztec lineage. The Aztec Tribesmen were also physically larger, so their tribe actually occupied a much larger piece of territory compared to the Bloody Totem Tribe.

Previously, the Blood Totem Tribe launched a surprise attack against the Rising Sun Tribe, catching them off guard and inflicting tremendous damage to their foundation. However, in the end, they were driven away, they were unable to actually defeat this large tribe, particularly when the tribe was guarded by those stronger Aztec elders.

However, not one single person in either of these tribes posed any sort of threat to Yaan.

Initially, when he found out that there were no 5-Star warriors in either of these enormous tribes, Yaan felt surprised. Even across a population numbering tens of millions, in a society where body tempering was practised by almost every single tribesman, not one person was able to reach the 5-Star realm?

But when he thought about it, and as he learned more about the region, it started to make sense.

Yaan could not speak for the entire Qi Plane, but he had a good understanding of society on Planet Yushu at least. Back on Planet Yushu, there were countless mortals and far fewer cultivators, the two were worlds apart, very rarely interacting or mingling.

On the Blood Plane, or at least in this War Flower Empire, such a distinction basically didn't exist. All people practised body tempering to some extent, so there were just as many lower realm cultivators as there were mortals!

Reaching the Iron Rank or Bronze Rank was possible for anyone, so long as they were diligent with their training, and they managed to procure some half-decent resources.

However, progressing further was difficult. Each subsequent realm was exponentially more difficult to reach than the last. This was also true for Qi refining, but when it came to body tempering, there was a crucial limiting factor; resources!

Without sufficient resources, no matter how talented or diligent a person was, they couldn't hope to reach a higher realm. Resources were limited within every single tribe, hence, there were few warriors possessing higher levels of cultivation.

As for the Bloody Totem Tribe, the simply did not possess sufficient resources to raise a 4-Star warrior to the 5-Star realm. In the past, they had such assets, but an elder of the tribe had attempted the ascension 15 years ago…

He failed, and died.

On a side note, Yaan already possessed the funds to allow every Peak 4-Star warrior in this tribe to attempt the ascension multiple times, but he kept that to himself for now.

Anyway, most of Yaan's assets came in the form of refined pills. Whilst pills were useful to body temperers, for those at the 4-Star and 5-Star realms, elixirs were countless times more desirable. In fact, the Rank 5 boundary ascension pill wasn't all that common in this region, because the tribal warriors preferred to seek out suitable elixirs instead.

Anyway, to reach the 5-Star realm, the boundary ascension pill was only a portion of what was needed. 5-Star body temperers formed their primal soul, a mere boundary ascension pill could not help them to achieve this.

After Yaan developed a better understanding of the situation in the Bloody Totem Tribe, he returned his attention to a map laid out on the table in the tribe leader's tribal mansion. She stood beside him silently, waiting for him to speak.

She had not yet revealed Yaan's existence to the tribe. Yaan told her to keep this hidden for now, until there was a reason to reveal it.

Whilst she was the leader of the tribe, she was not the strongest member. There were still the tribe's five great elders with Peak 4-Star cultivation; each of those five individuals surpassed her both in terms of strength and seniority. The only reason that she was given the position of tribe leader, was because those five elders did not wish to bother themselves with such a tedious position in their old age.

"The War Flower Empire…the Kingdom of Lunar Song…the Star Plain Province…" Yaan muttered to himself softly.

For now, it wasn't even worth thinking about the War Flower Empire as a whole, the scale of this empire was beyond his ability to even imagine. As for the Kingdom of Lunar Song, it was ruled by the Lunar Song Tribe, which was backed by an immortal…for now, Yaan wanted nothing to do with this tribe.

"Star Plain Province…" He muttered again.

Unlike the hegemony of the empire and the kingdom which was still beyond him, the Star Plain Province did not have any clear ruler. As such, this vast stretch of grassy plains was named after its environment. It was said that countless stars could be seen at night no matter where you stood in the province, and that on rare occasions, star dust would rain down from the sky…

Seeing countless stars in the sky might sound ordinary, and on the Qi Plane, such a thing really was quite typical. However, the Blood Plane…

The Blood Plane had no stars!

There was only the sun, a single unique star which dwarfed any star on the Qi Plane by countless times.

The fact that stars could be seen in the sky here was indeed very strange. Yaan had tried to investigate this matter earlier, despite the tribe leader reminding him that it was futile.

She was correct, it was useless. The Blood Plane's environment was too strange, the higher one flew up, the stronger the gravity and spiritual pressure became. Even Yaan struggled to fly up by more than a few miles, before he was forced back down by the building pressure.

In the end, he gave up on investigating for now.

The environment here was beyond his ability to investigate, but the 49 tribes in this province did not intimidate Yaan in the least. Of these 49 tribes, only six possessed 5-Star warriors, most were similar to the Bloody Totem Tribe, where the height of power was the 4-Star realm.

As for tribes without 4-Star cultivators?

They didn't exist!

In the War Flower Empire, weaker tribes were swallowed up by stronger tribes. The war flower law prevented large tribes from completely dominating and massacring everything around them, but the law was such that if a tribe was too weak, it could not survive.

Yaan studied the region in and around the province, paying some attention to the stronger tribes, but still not feeling too worried.

Why was it that he was studying this map, assessing the various surrounding tribes?

Why was it that he had agreed to join the Bloody Totem Tribe as an external elder?

Because he planned to kill!

Back on Planet Yushu, in the Demonic North, you could kill whomever you pleased, so long as you did not offend someone that you could not afford to offend.

In the Southern Continent, killing was prohibited entirely.

But in this War Flower Empire, killing was actively encouraged…only, it needed to be channeled in a particular way.

Channelled through war.

Yaan had always adapted to his environment, and now, he fully planned to make the best use of this 'war flower law'.

He wanted to return home, he wanted to overcome his deranged fate, but he was simply far too weak! Yaan was all too aware of his own weakness, he understood that before even thinking about anything else, he needed to become stronger.

In a way, his situation right now was actually quite good.

His dantian and his core had been repaired. He was not being suppressed or targeted by anyone beyond his ability to handle.

And most of all, this war flower law suited his cultivation plans just perfectly…his plans to properly utilise the Fiend Transformation technique's primary method!

Even though Yaan had stepped onto the path of the Four Paths Cultivation technique, his fiend foundation still existed; if he killed, he would still devour the slaughter aura!

And so, Yaan planned to kill.

He no longer cared to justify his killing, he no longer made any distinction between 'good' or 'evil'. In the world of cultivation, righteous or demonic, good or evil…by a certain point, everyone had committed unforgivable acts.

Not one powerful cultivator could truly be considered innocent, especially on the Blood Plane.

After studying the map until he felt satisfied, Yaan left the tribal mansion once again. He briefly glanced up at the bloody totems, finally understanding these disturbing pillars after investigating and listening to the tribe leader's explanation.

The totems were all carved with many eyes, whilst blood leaked from each and every one of these eyes, dripping down into the ground. When the blood reached the ground, it soaked into the earth below, before the vitality contained within the blood spread throughout the surface layer of land across the tribe.

These totems were all part of one giant formation. The formation was built by the founding ancestor of the tribe, a 5-Star body temperer with an expertise in this area.

Like in the Rising Sun Tribe, there were sacrificial alters placed in various places around the Bloody Totem Tribe. The blood was drained from the sacrifices and channelled into the totems, which each formed a network across the tribe, dispersing the vitality from the blood outwards.

This was a method of increasing the land's spiritual power.

The Blood Plane lacked atmospheric spiritual energy, making Qi refining near impossible. However, the land was filled with a similar force known as spiritual power, allowing elixirs to grow freely. By increasing the spiritual power in their tribe, the Bloody Totem Tribe was able to grow elixirs…unfortunately, they did not possess any elixirs currently.

Elixirs took a long time to grow, and even in the entire Bloody Totem Tribe, they only had six elixir trees.

As he thought about elixirs and recalled the elixirs he had used back in the 4th trial realm, Yaan's mind drifted towards the Rising Sun Tribe.

He remembered that elixir above the alter, the blood red fruit that was nurtured by the sacrifices below.

Yaan looked up into the sky calmly, before turning his head and looking in a certain direction. When he finally spoke, the tribe leader jolted upon hearing his words.

"Announce my acceptance into the tribe. I will be destroying the Rising Sun Tribe tomorrow."

Bab 180: Returning to the Aztecs

Yaan stared down at the recovering Rising Sun Tribe silently. This tribe had suffered from the all-out surprise attack of the Bloody Totem Tribe one year earlier. Although the surviving tribesmen hated the Bloody Totem Tribe to death, they were forced to swallow their grievances for now, focussing on the restoration of the tribe.

It had only been one year since then, but the tribe had recovered to an impressive level. They lost millions of tribesmen in that dreadful battle, reducing their numbers by over 20%. In any society, a sudden 20% decline in population would have a huge impact on the day to day functionings of nearly everything, but the Aztec leaders were able to bring the people together, working towards the restoration of their home.

Their efforts were extremely impressive, by now, no remaining damage nor signs of battle could be seen. Of course, there was still much hidden damage lingering across their society, but nothing that could be seen at a glance.

"Their effort is impressive, but in the end, futile." Yaan spoke calmly, before glancing back at the various 4-Star warriors behind him.

The tribe leader stood closest to him, whilst the five great elders of the tribe, the five Peak 4-Star realm warriors, looked towards him apprehensively.

The previous day, when the tribe leader visited them one by one, informing them that this 'child' had not only been accepted into the tribe, but that he would be in charge of offensive war affairs from now on, they were naturally shocked and unwilling to accept it. They thought that the young tribe leader had gone insane…until Yaan acted.

All it took was two words for them to fall into line.

"Follow me." He said.

But his words contained ripples of dao, his aura shot to a terrifying peak in an instant, before vanishing, as if it had never existed.

Yaan was simply too far beyond these 4-Star cultivators. Even though his cultivation level was also at the realm of 4-Star, he cultivated the Four Paths Cultivation technique, his strength was far beyond just this.

But most importantly, Yaan had achieved immortal stage dao comprehension in the dao of illusions. Even though he was yet to master the pseudo-domain, and only managed to manifest it previously after pushing himself to the brink of collapse, his dao comprehension alone was now enough to completely suppress most Foundation Step cultivators!

The five great elders could not even estimate his cultivation level, but they knew right away that they were not his match. They were unable to resist this child, and they could not even use the war flower law to threaten him…because he had already been accepted into the tribe by the tribe leader!

The war flower law protected all tribes from rogue individuals, but tribes were not protected from their own tribesmen! In fact, the war flower law did not deal with a tribe's internal matters at all.

As such, it did not matter that Yaan had only just made his first public appearance in the Bloody Totem Tribe, it didn't matter that the other tribe elders all felt wary and uncertain towards him. He was officially a member of the tribe, this had been publicly acknowledged by the tribe leader, so now, Yaan could even massacre the entire Bloody Totem Tribe if he felt like it.

But he would not do that. He had decided to make use of the Bloody Totem Tribe as his tool of war.

Even though he was strong, Yaan was only a single person. Since he had decided to attack the Rising Sun Tribe, slaughtering their powerful cultivators to further his own cultivation, he needed these other people to deal with the clean up.

Actually, the Rising Sun Tribe's higher ups were too weak to be of much use to Yaan's cultivation, but they still possessed elixirs that he also desired. Aside from that, he was already thinking long term…

Since he had joined the Bloody Totem Tribe, Yaan intended to elevate this tribe into a larger, more dominant force. The Rising Sun Tribe was his first stepping stone on the way towards this goal.

Unhurriedly, Yaan raised one hand into the sky. As he dropped his hand, he uttered a single word.

"Go."

It was somewhat lacklustre for a battle cry, but then again, Yaan was not particularly trying to raise his side's morale, nor to improve their confidence in his success.

To Yaan, this could not even be considered a battle.

Its was simply cultivation.

Whoosh!

As his arm dropped down, Yaan's aura suddenly exploded outwards. This aura was terrifying, and yet, it was completely impossible to discern his cultivation from it.

This was the terror of an illusion dao expert!

Whether or not the magnitude of this aura was real or false was unknown. In fact, it was as if Yaan could manipulate what was real and what was false to his own desire, turning illusion into reality!

The Bloody Totem Tribe Elders grit their teeth, but they still charged forth, not daring to linger when Yaan had already issued the command.

It wasn't just the five great elders who had experienced Yaan's overbearing presence; every 4-Star warrior in the tribe, meaning every single tribe elder, had also met this unusual robed child. One half of those elders remained in the tribe, but the other half joined Yaan today in launching an attack on the Bloody Totem Tribe!

After rushing past him, they couldn't help but glance back, wondering what his plan was in dealing with the Rising Sun Tribe's protection formation.

One year ago, the assault might have seemed abrupt, but it came about after decades of researching the Rising Sun Tribe's protection formation in secret! Because of this period of patient study, they were able to sneak past the formation without the Aztecs being alerted.

But since then, the formation had been repaired and altered, they could no longer use the same method as in the past!

So, how would they get past this formation? Naturally, as they approached the tribe's perimeter, the warriors slowed down and glanced back at Yaan…only to find that he was no longer there.

BOOM!

Suddenly, everyone's heads whipped back towards the front. Their eyes widened as they stared at the unbelievable scene before them.

The formation…had been broken through by sheer force!

Yaan stood there with a sword in hand calmly. The sword he used to create this destruction was the abyssal blood sword.

If it were before, he would not dare to reveal this sword to the outside world. It was clearly a treasure beyond the Foundation Step, if an immortal were to catch wind of Yaan possessing such a thing, he would be targeted immediately.

But he now had assurance that this would not happen. With his immortal stage illusion dao comprehension, Yaan was able to hide the sword's aura from those around him.

He could not actually conceal the sword's aura perfectly, but he could suppress the aura whilst distorting everyone's perception of the blade. This made it such that, whilst demonic looking, the sword did not appear to be too shocking in the eyes of everyone in the area.

And as for how Yaan broke through the formation…

Firstly, he was basically an expert when it came to analysing formations now. He was able to quickly deduce one of the weak points in this formation, targeting this point and creating an opening.

Secondly…Yaan was strong.

His Vital Qi Core realm cultivation, which vastly surpassed any normal Rank 4 cultivation and matched Rank 5 battle strength on its own.

The abyssal blood sword, a shocking treasure which Yaan still did not fully understand.

His dao of illusion comprehension…in the end, this was still the greatest factor contributing to his absurd improvement in strength.

Yaan did not use any special techniques, he actually possessed very few techniques which were specifically designed to be used with the dao of illusions anyway. All he did was use his comprehension to amplify the power of his attack…

He created the illusion of strength, then turned this illusion into reality.

With that, Yaan stepped into the tribe, whilst the Bloody Totem Tribe elders followed dazedly behind him.

Honestly, he could have snuck everyone in through the front entrance gate, disguising them as members of the Aztec Tribe. In the end though, he was making his first public appearance on the Blood Plane, and he intended to establish himself thoroughly.

Yaan did not conceal his aura as he returned to the Rising Sun Tribe, but instead spread out his killing intent openly and challengingly, intending to make his presence known for all to see.

On his side, only the 4-Star warriors of the tribe had come, meaning that their numbers were not even in the triple digits. As for the Rising Sun Tribe, despite their previous losses, they still had over 20 million members!

But what could those people do?

3-Star and below body temperers could not even fly! Only those who developed a vital core were able to fly.

Vital treasures were not as impressive as the spiritual treasures used by Qi refiners, flying type vital treasures were too rare, they would not be wasted on weaker warriors.

This meant that in the end, this battle would be determined entirely by the 4-Star warriors!

Or rather, this battle was determined entirely by Yaan.

"Bloody Totem Tribe!" A tremendous roar echoed out from below, before a 15 foot tall Aztec man rushed out from underneath an alter, followed by two other equally enraged Aztecs.

"You dare return after what you did last time?! Prepare to die!"

"Bastards! Hmm…who is this fragile looking child?"

Yaan did not bother to respond as the Aztecs continued to rush towards him from all around the tribe. They had been made aware of his presence by now, but they only realised the terror of the monster they were facing when it was already too late.

They rushed over here with such ferocity, but when they came to face Yaan, not one person dared to make the first move.

The courageous Aztecs…were scared?!

The Bloody Totem Tribe Elders were tongue tied.

Yaan waited for more Aztecs to appear. They were stationed all over the tribe after all, it would take them some time to travel the dozens of miles to reach him.

When he finally felt like enough people were present, Yaan raised the abyssal blood sword above his head, then without a word, slashed down.

BANG!

With the first move, the Aztec Tribe leader and three other Aztec Elders were killed, their bodies exploding into a wave of blood.
