They were determined to follow through no matter the cost.
That very Sunday Evening, Lucy and Alexander were watching Tv in the living room when Canary came to them from his room.
Lucy smiled at him, patting the seat next to her. "Join us, Canary. We were just about to watch something."
He nodded and settled down beside her, the familiar comfort of family settling in.
Alexander glanced over at him. "How's work going?" he asked casually.
"Fine," Canary replied, keeping his tone light. "Nothing out of the ordinary."
Lucy sighed contentedly, adjusting the blanket around her. "It's nice to have a quiet evening for once."
Canary smiled, feeling a rare sense of peace as the three of them settled in to watch the movie, the sound of their shared laughter filling the room.
They were enjoying the moment when Lucy received a call.
" Who is that interrupting our moment ?" Alexander asked on hearing Lucy's phone ring.
Lucy picked the call and found that it was Joel.
" It's my brother. I will pick it !"
As Lucy stepped out to take her call, the room grew quieter. Alexander turned to Canary, his expression serious.
"So, how far are you with the financials?" he asked, his voice measured but curious.
Canary leaned forward slightly, keeping his tone calm. "I've made progress. There are some discrepancies, but nothing definitive yet," he said carefully.
Alexander's eyes narrowed, sensing the weight behind Canary's words. "What do you expect to find?"
Canary met his father's gaze, his voice steady. "I hope to have the results by tomorrow. If everything checks out, I'll know for sure."
Alexander nodded, his gaze lingering on Canary for a moment. "Be careful. Some things are better left undisturbed."
Canary gave a small nod. "I'll be careful. But dad I need to know the truth. Don't you really have a reason for asking me to do this ? " Canary asked.
Before Alexander could answer anything Lucy came back in rush and put her phone on the sofa near Canary and Alexander.
" Oh my, I need to use to washroom.." she said in hurry and left but little did she know that Joel was still on the call.
Joel from the other side heard Lucy say that she needed to use the washroom and laughed. He was about to end the call when he heard Alexander's familiar Voice.
" Son, I will tell you everything once you get the result tomorrow." Joel heard Alex say.
" Dad, You worry me. I have a bad feeling about this. I wonder why you worry Uncle Joel so much to an extent of asking me to do research about his records. " Canary said to Alexander not knowing that Joel was hearing.
" Just get the result. Most things need proof before tales." Alexander spoke.
Joel who was hearing clenched his fists in anger.
' Alexander, I see you gained your memory, it seems you have been fooling me that you forgot eveything. Yet you want to tell your son about it. That I tried to kill you and I plan to take over the company. But since you said he needs the result first, I won't let him find the result, Nor will I let you !'
Joel swore and finally ended the call.
" Fine Dad, I will get the result tomorrow. Then you must tell me." Canary assured his father.
Alex nodded back at him. Lucy came back and joined them until the movie was done.

The following morning, Joel sat in a secluded office within the Andersons Group headquarters, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the polished desk.
Across from him sat Mr. Williams and Mrs. Regina, their faces marked with tension.
"We don't have much time," Joel said, his voice sharp. "Canary expects the results today. If he sees the actual report, we're finished."
Mrs. Regina adjusted her glasses nervously. "The report is in the internal system, and only his team has access. We'd need a way to intercept it before it gets to him."
Joel smirked, leaning back in his chair. "Leave that part to me. Williams, you still have access to the server backups, right?"
L
Mr. Williams nodded, his face grim. "I do, but it's risky. If anyone notices tampering—"
"They won't," Joel interjected coldly. "Canary's team trusts their system. By the time they realize something's off, it'll be too late."
Mrs. Regina hesitated before speaking. "What exactly are we replacing the report with?"
" A fabricated one," Joel replied. "We'll create a clean version that clears our tracks. Make it look like everything in the company's finances is spotless."
Mr. Williams frowned. "And if Canary asks for raw data?"
Joel's smirk deepened. "He won't. He'll assume his team did their job right. Trust me, we've been one step ahead of him so far. Let's not lose our edge now."
Mrs. Regina exchanged a glance with Williams, then gave a reluctant nod. "Fine. But we need to act fast. The report will be finalized by noon."
Joel stood, a gleam of satisfaction in his eyes. "Then let's make it happen. By the time Canary gets the results, he'll have nothing to hold against us."
The three of them dispersed, each moving swiftly to carry out their part of the plan.
Joel's confidence didn't waver as he headed to his next meeting, knowing that with this move, he was buying more time to protect his schemes.
But in the back of his mind, a shadow of doubt lingered—how long could they keep Canary from uncovering the truth?
