I picked one of the futons and was about to collapse on it when there was a knock at the door. Katie went to answer it.
The visitor turned out to be Crystal, who slipped conspiratorially into the room, closing the door quickly behind her. “So you got my message,” she said to Katie without preamble.
“For what it was worth,” Katie said. “As vague and insubstantial warnings go, it was a doozy. Still, it was enough to get me here. Now give me all the details.”
“There aren’t any details,” Crystal admitted. “I’m a psychic, you know. I just picked up really bad vibrations the last time I was here. I thought there might be something going on that you could use in your next book. You just need to keep your eyes open and dig around a little.”
Crystal gave Katie a knowing wink, then left without another word.
“What the…” I gave Katie a blank look. “I think I must have missed an episode.”
