Bab 38: Chapter 38

In her mind, she’d taken apart her old motorcycle, changed the oil and rebuilt it. She redecorated her house and replanted her garden.

She recited poems aloud and told herself the stories she’d read from her grandmother’s library.

She sat and thought. She slept and dreamed.17

Thirteen Months

Wendell sat at his desk, fuming. He couldn’t remember ever being angrier. The fax lay on his desk, decoded and authenticated…another For Your Eyes Onlymissive from Carl Reese. Weeks had gone by; no word, no talks, nothing. Now this.

He reached for the phone and buzzed his secretary. When she answered, all he said was, “Get me the director.”

In a few minutes, he heard, “Wendell? What’s up?”

“I need to talk with you right away. We just got a fax from Ambassador Reese.”

“Come on down,” Craig said and disconnected the phone. Within minutes Wendell entered Craig Roberson’s office.
