“Allan? She’s gonna come and she’s gonna have questions, and you’re gonna have to answer them.”

“What do you want me to say?”

“The truth. All of it. She needs it. We all need it. It’s time.”

“She hates me. I mean, what should I expect?”

“Expect a nineteen-year-old woman looking for closure.”

I nodded, taking Cameron’s hand. “Okay, I get it.”

“I want you to call me as soon as she gets there. And, Allan, don’t fuck this up.”

“Okay, I’ll call you,” I whispered and hung up.

“What is it?” Cameron looked absolutely panicked.

“Can you help me clean up this place and set up the guest room?”

“Who’s coming?”

I stood and went to the window again. The past was coming.

“Allan?”

I stared at the end of the street, waiting for the past to turn the corner. “My niece,” I said. “Fay.”

“Get rid of these,” I said, tossing a few of his glossy porn magazines on the bed. “And don’t put them in the recycling bin either.”
