Cameron shook his head, squinting at my computer screen. “You didn’t save any of your files on your e-mail account or—”

“Can you believe how stupid I am?” I circled my desk. “I just…I can’t understand why—”

“Give yourself a break, Allan. I’ve done worse things under the influence.” He clicked and scrolled and clicked. It was making me insane.

“Can you retrieve them?” I rubbed my head, trying to keep from yelling at him. None of this was his fault. “This is my life’s work. I thought I deleted only the working titles. I erased all of my short stories, half of my new—”

“Yeah, I can get them back.”
