“Listen to me, please.” The kettle sang and my sister turned the burner off, standing with her back tome. “He’s not going to leave her,” she said. “And even if he did, what do you think would happen next? Do you know what kind of disaster this would mean for you?” She turned around. “For me? Do you really believe you guys could be together after the explosion?”

“Is this about you, then?”

“Yes! My God, Allan, I’m married to his brother! And I love Dayton. I love his family! They’re my family now. Mine! How long did I have to wait for this, huh?” She composed herself, but her hands shook as she poured the water into our cups. “I don’t want you to blame me,” she said, the tears finally spilling over her face. “But I can’t let you destroy my family over a man who doesn’t even deserve you.”

“What makes you think he doesn’t deserve me? You think I’m a fucking angel, right? That he’s the bigbad wolf that corrupted your perfect little brother? Well, I’ve got news for you. I’m not this—”
