“I’ll drive you there this afternoon.”
It would be the first time Barry would have driven either man. They always insisted on taking the wheel, and usually argued about which one would do it. The fact Jimmy didn’t immediately object to being relegated to the passenger seat showed just how troubled he was.
“I’ll even go into the cubicle with you if you want.”
Jimmy looked up. “Would you?”
Barry would do anything for this man. Knowing how dangerous it was to continue that thought process, he said, “And I’ll even make sure the doctor gives you a ‘I’ve been a brave cowboy’ badge.”
Barry got another smile, as well as a kiss.

Even though they’d gotten some odd looks, Barry kept hold of his cowboy’s hand.
While they were waiting in a curtained-off area for the doctor, Jimmy, sitting on the edge of a gurney, once again thanked Barry for coming with him. He followed it up with an apology for being such a baby.
