-Kate's POV-
The scene of her father, Scott killing her mom kept replaying in her head. Her mom did become a zombie and her father did the right thing to protect himself and her. But witnessing the scene of her father killing her mom had traumatized her.
She didn't want to think about it, rather she would give anything to just forget about the things she saw. But it wasn't possible, nothing could change the fact.
Losing her father, to his vengeance of killing zombies didn't help much either. She didn't have anyone to rely on for emotional support, and each and every day she had to witness those zombies again and again.
Killing and growing, zombies were parasites that were hard to control once they spread to a certain degree. She was starting to get used to all the gunshots, missiles launched by armies, grenades, she had seen it all.
But these damn things were still growing with no signs of stopping any time soon.
Their only hope for survival was to leave the place, and that's what they had been trying to do as they gathered around more people with similar objectives.
They had a clear goal, save people as much as you could. Kill the zombies and escape from this place. As the virus hadn't ended up outside Las Vegas, they would be saved as long as they cross the artificial border made by the army.
And they had been doing so, but things had started to change ever since they picked up that one guy. He introduced himself as Kai.
He looked to be around her age and had pink hair making him stand out from the rest but since they were in Vegas, things like these weren't anything new.
Aside from his good looks, he didn't have much of a personality as he didn't socialize with others and except for the time they served food, he was almost always sleeping.
He didn't go out on hunts and stayed back with the rest of the people who couldn't fight, mainly children and a few elderly they had managed to save.
With Vanderohe not liking him and not having a lot of people to look after the people who stayed behind, her father had let Kai be with a promise that he will look after these people if something attacked them alongside herself.
He acted indifferent and even weak at times, but something about him felt different.
Even though they were on guard duty together sometimes, they barely exchanged more than a couple of words. Not that she was talkative herself but even when she initiated the conversation, he always found a way to end it short.
She wasn't an idiot to fall in love at first sight especially after being what she had been through not to mention the scene they were in. But her gut feeling told her that this man was not good news. He felt dangerous as the air around him began feeling scarier day after day.
She had tried to mention it to her father once who dismissed it right away. With her father having to kill so many zombies, zombies who used to be people once had the same air about him. He was changing too.
For some reason, her father seemed to like Kai, but that didn't convince her of his intentions.
One night as she woke up to get some water, she noticed someone sneaking back into their hideout. Following the shadow, she found Kai who was changing his bloodied clothes into a new ones.
If that wasn't suspicious enough, there were marks on his body and face like weird tattoos that slowly disappeared in front of her very own eyes as if they never existed in the first place.
Knowing no one would believe her, she left the place going back to her bed wanting to gather concrete evidence behind what she saw. And she herself wanted to know what was the mystery behind the man.
This time, she didn't sleep even a wink steadily waiting for Kai's move so she could gather her evidence. With her phone, she began live streaming for everyone to see, even if the worst were to take place and Kai were to do something to her.
The evidence would still be out there.
The topic of zombies and Las Vegas were a hot topic at the moment, so it didn't take much time for her to garner viewers one after another. It was fine as long as there were some people watching but she didn't expect there to be so many people to flock to her live stream from all over the world.
Normally it would make her happy that she was a bit famous, but in the current predicament they were in, she couldn't help but form a bitter expression. The world was twisted, after all, their misery was someone else's form of entertainment.
They wanted to see zombies, they wanted to see zombies kill people and they wanted to watch her getting killed by them. That was their entertainment.
Shaking her head she followed Kai out of the hideout. The zombies seemed to be the most docile she had ever seen. Sneakily hiding behind cars and buildings she avoided zombies as best as she could.
After following him for some time, Kai stopped.
Kate hurriedly covered her mouth, wondering if he had noticed her but instead she saw something that astonished her.
The tattoos appeared back on his skin again, as he jumped on top of a building.
Everyone on the live stream was going crazy about what had just happened, as for her, she was frozen in place witnessing the impossible. No normal human could jump that high and keep doing so with such ease.
She knew she had to be quick, so she began rushing after him as quickly as she could. It felt like forever but she could only keep chasing after his shadow until he finally stopped in front of the Olympus.
She took heavy breaths exhausted from all the running, as she got inside one of the abandoned cars, securing herself by closing all the doors and windows as she began streaming the entire incident.
She couldn't hear him from the distance but she had seen it all, the zombie on top of the Olympus with the spear. The tiger zombie that crept up behind him.
She wanted to get out and warn him, but she knew she was dead meat if she decides to do so. It was already a miracle for her to already be out so far not being chased by a single zombie.
But the look on Kai's face made her feel calm or was that even his real name she wondered as she began realizing the man she had been observing for the past week was a complete stranger to her. He was a being out of her imagination, something that shouldn't exist.
She shut her mouth close, as she witnessed the fight between the tiger and Kai. Watching how easily he threw away the tiger and didn't look much worried about it at all.
The whole time he had a mocking smile on his face until the end where he crushed the tiger's head with his feet alone. She gulped witnessing something so unnatural.
She had already forgotten about the live stream she was doing, as she saw Kai point towards the zombie on top of the Olympus before walking away.
She was frozen in place, only waking up when the phone's notification rang. It was a text from her dad, telling her to quickly come back to the hideout.
Even though she did it alone, it seems one of the people in the hideout had shown her dad the live stream. Breathing heavily she wiped the sweat dripping down on her forehead as she got out of the car only to be surrounded by zombies.
It seemed like the phone's notification, had alerted the zombies as well.
She cursed herself for not putting her phone on silent. As she spent most of her time inside the hideout, she needed to be alert of all the situation going on outside so never kept it on silent in case she were to miss something.
But all the excuses and reasons meant nothing since she was about to die if she didn't act quickly.
She quickly rushed back into the car, with the zombies surrounding her completely. She could see their bloody and ugly faces pressed against the car trying to break in. The noise they caused alerted more zombies nearby as the crowd of zombies got thicker and thicker.
With not having much of an option, she tried to start the car but to no avail.
"Shit!" She gasped out loudly knowing this was the end for her. Even though she was prepared to face the worst-case scenario by following Kai, she didn't want to turn into one of them.
She looked at her phone realizing the live stream was still going with more and more viewers adding up as a chuckle left her mouth.
"Fuck all of you!" She exclaimed turning off the live stream. She didn't want her father to watch her die. Her phone began ringing like crazy from the call from her dad, but she didn't pick it up.
She didn't really want to add to the burden her father was carrying all by himself.
But then something unexpected happened.
