I sat and waited for the descenders to awake. Eventually, the leader awoke after 30 minutes of resting. As he open his eyes to look around hysterically he stopped once he caught sight of me before he said anything his comrade also awoke to cause him to shift his attention.
Once his comrade regain consciousness I quickly got up and ran away towards the deeper parts of the forest, my goal was to wait for them to wake up anyway.
"Alright let's continue grinding, I would like to make some money before returning back up "
I continued deeper for the next 10 minutes before slowing down as I started hearing sounds of conflict. Curious, I headed in the direction of the source. As I get near a clearing I noticed a field full of dead floor 1 monsters, all of which looked like they were ripped and shredded by a stronger foe. Suddenly, a body of a Woompa came flying downward creating a wide blood splat as it landed.
"Disgusting "
I look upward to see if anything else was going to rain down and luckily enough I was able to dodge another object. As I rolled out of its way I stood back up to notice that the object was a Woompa's severed head.
"Jesus"
As I try looking for the source behind all these killings I stop in my pursuit due to a loud roar. This roar was so strong that I could not move for 3 seconds nor could I breathe due to the sudden fear that arise within me. Once I regain control I went towards the source of the roar fighting my inner self while doing so as my instincts are telling me to run.
The closer I get to the source the more struggles I hear. When I ran up a hill I was finally able to see the boss. In a medium-size field, an upright figure wearing armor and wielding half of a sword was busy fighting the monsters that are coming from every direction.
The boss was in a bad state as I notice the claw marks and damage in its armor. The boss's movements were also a bit janky, giving me the impression that it was severely damaged despite its armor. Despite it being in a bad condition it was having little to no trouble killing all the monsters around it effortlessly.
"Lucky me, looks like all I have to do is wait it out"
With a smirk, I sat down leaning on a tree and facing the gruesome blood brawl in front of me. One by one the lower monsters that challenge the boss was killed each just as gruesome as the last until finally, the lower monsters lost their will to kill as they witness piles upon a pile of bodies stacking creating a medium size mound. One by one they fled until finally the only ones left within the area is the boss, tired and deeply wounded the boss collapsed, but not dead, to rest.
"Alright, time to act now"
I pick myself up and head toward the boss who is too tired to stand and too tired to fight. Carefully and slowly I walk toward the boss and once I get within range I pulled out my sword and, with full force, stab the boss's skull. A cube appears with the color red and proceeds to open it.
Inside I received an [ Unknown Ring ] that seems to be surrounded by some kind of aura, not the good kind either, so I decided to just equip it for now and appraise it later once I return back. With the boss now done in, I shifted my attention towards the monsters who came by for the corpse. Looking around I was able to identify 6 medium-sized monsters, if killed by me I'm positive I should be able to gain something, and so I rush towards the one by one and slash at their throats. Most were easy to maneuver around since their attacks seem slow to me and their neck were firm, allowing my sword to cut cleanly like tofu, however, a couple was difficult due to their speed and toughness of the skin. Nevertheless, I was able to finish them all and upon doing so my assumption was right, I gained some rations and [Small Red Crystals] which I used all at once to regain my optimized state.
[Level Up]
Running around aimlessly I found the passageway to the next floor, [FLOOR 2]. As I walk by other Descenders I notice that some were walking upward in a terrible state, one of them even lost an arm, it's a reminder that even though this life seems easy going to those who gain wealth and fame, it is still a life and death life that should not be taken lightly. After 3 minutes of walking downward, I finally reach the entrance to the floor. Upon entering I felt the temperature is lower but not to an extreme amount rather it felt like it was Fall. When compared to the first floor the amount of trees is very scarce and the land is flat, but the grass is medium height to that of the average person.
The cool air blowing through me stopped me from running aimlessly and convinced me to find a safe spot and rest for a while, enough to restore the fatigue that I have felt after floor 1. Looking around I notice a campsite where many Descenders seem to be resting as I noticed them eating, chatting, and trading. Making my way over I gaze my eyes away from others to not attract nor seek attention and find an open spot for me to just simply rest. Looking around again I felt no ill intention for any wrongdoing from anyone, rather than that, I saw Descenders sharing and helping others like them rather than competing and controlling one another. The sight of this brings me a bit of comfort knowing I will not be harmed for the time being and so I lay down and shut my eyes.
[...Hey]
"Hm?"
[What is your purpose?]
"To reach the bottom and uncovered what those before could not"
[Would that not be impossible?]
"For the time being it is but down the road the probability is not entirely 0"
[Seems like you are serious with an ambition that matches your desire]
[Would you like me to help you?]
"Sure, but one thing though.."
[What is it?]
"Who are you?"
[...]
[You will find out once you wake up soon...]
Still feeling a bit hazy I open my eyes and noticed that there are still people around me chatting and entertaining one another, checking to see if any of my equipment was stolen I notice something very peculiar. My sword now has a new name upon inspection, [ Minx ], a bit surprised by the change I asked the [System] for some assistance.
"Hey [System]"
[Yes]
"How did my sword change its name?"
[On rare occasions items will change properties depending on certain conditions being met]
"How do I know what those conditions are?"
[Unfortunately, all items do not contain instructions on how to change]
Disappointed that my answer was not answered the way I was expecting, I ignored it and shift my focus back towards the sword. Wielding it I can feel like something has changed but what that change was is not specified nor is it obvious since the appearance is still the same. Unsastify with the unknown changes I decided it's best to test it out by hunting rather than just sitting and guessing. I brush off the dirt and ran in the direction I believe will get me to the center. Passing by some Descender I heard them talking about how some monsters were heading towards the camp for some odd reason.
